ATTENTION: Ignorant Kruppe Has Something to Bray!

What exactly is Blood Oil and where do the Uryd warrriors get it? Kruppe is only 125 pages into the story, so please excuse self if this question is one that will be satisfactorily answered upon further reading.

Kruppe in his ignorance cannot but compare Blood Oil to some multi-purpose lubricant like WD-40 laced with catnip, loco weed and Viagra.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your questions will be answered (in roundabout Erikson fashion, naturally) later in HoC, or possibly a subsequent book.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

The important stuff about it comes later. I think it comes from their trees, though, like sap? Anyone else recollect something like that?

Yeah, it does, or at least is hinted to.

Blood oil is oil from certain trees that grow near where the Teblor tribes worship or have their villages ... either or both.

Lol yea, if there was a movie quote thread on here I'd be a legend...

Can someone explain what rep is to me? I'm relatively new to the site, and I'm not sure exactly what it is...I think maybe someone gave me rep once or I gave someone rep possibly because whenever I see their name it says "Your rep +1" underneath their avatar. idk...just one of the things that I don't fully understand about the site.

Silencer has the your rep+1 thing I think...anyway back when this forum was on vBulletin there was a system whereby you could award worthy posts with 'reputation' points, and thus you could tell how useful someone was by their reputation level. But, it got out of hand - it became all about the rep, and people merely posted to get reputation, not out of any want to contribute to the discussion. So some people cried foul and it was taken away when we moved here. Many people lamented the loss, but now it looks like we're getting a version of it back.

Good Lord MTB, stop lying to the kid.

People were not "merely posting to get reputation" and not contributing to the discussion. That's just nonsense. Not everything that is fun or insightfull needs to be fuelled by a want for rep.

And rep was not "taken away". The old IPB versions don't support reputation. The new forum upgrade to IPB3, which we'll probably be getting in the weekend, supports reputation.

Negreps MTB :(

MTB? Haha MTS thank you very much.

Merely posting to get rep? What about the I WIN thread? This isn't a rep discussion though so back on topic!

ATTENTION: Ignorant Kruppe Has Something to Bray!

Kruppe has not read any of your spoilers and thanks one and all for employing them!

Kruppe has completed the first section of the book and discovered only that
Spoiler
. There are obviously other ingredients of Blood Oil that Kruppe is still unaware of.

Again, Kruppe extends his eternal gratitude for your wise and sagacious use of spoiler tags.

-----

Kruppe is a member of another board that used a rep system based on registration date, number of posts, and exponentially burgeoning "influence" based on one's total rep. There too, rep got well out of hand, with members approaching 10 millions of rep points and therefore giving out nearly 100,000 rep points at a pop.

Just today, it has been reset as a rep+1 system. However, not reset to zero, but just to where all prior instances of individual reputation giving have been recalculated to one point each, pleasing Kruppe greatly, as he has discovered that he is the most repped member of those humble boards, at 1,388 points. :(

The magnitude of Kruppe's greatness is almost too diffucult for even him to wrap his rapier-like mind around. Only Kruppe's legendary modesty exceeds his heroic fabulosity.

Carry on.

It's just another substance in the Malazan world to keep things interesting. Like the amusing Blood Oil scene in Lees of Laughter's End. :(
