I would agree they don't feel tacked on so much as deliberately open ended. But i can see how some readers wish for more closure.

PSS being the book that comes closest to an actual ending, also has the weakest ending of the CM works i have read, because of the sheer random, almost disconnected way the slake moth plotline is tied up. I imagine i would have even preferred a more ambiguous ending where the last moth goes into a cocoon somewhere never to be seen again until next time it awakes, rather than what ended up happening with the flamethrowers or whatever.

King Rat has a pretty 'ending' ending. Still slightly open-ended, but it wraps everything up. It isn't part of the Bas Lag books, but I read it a week or two ago and this is my thread Actually a pretty decent book, although you can tell it's his debut novel - it's a tad short and not nearly as strong as the newer books. Still interesting idea and eery villian, I'd recommend it to fans of his other work.
