2nd trailer released for this is even better than the first!

Two words for you....PEGASUS....and the KRAKKEN!!

Anyways, I am a HUGE fan of the original Harryhausen flick, but after this 2nd trailer I have A LOT more faith in the remake. This looks EPIC!!

Wow.

That was possibly THE most cliche-riddled, overblown trailer I've ever seen. All "BOOM-BOOM-BOOM" in fast motion, with laughably predictable presentation, plus the usual hard rock soundtrack and word-by-word titles. Generally when a trailer looks like this, it means they want as many bums on seats in theatres during the first week before word gets out that it stinks, because it won't last much beyond that.

I'll only see it if a bunch of you guys give it the thumbs up.

True dat.

I think you know what I mean though - instead of making people interested enough to see it over a multi-week period, they've realised it won't last that long and want to excite them enough to want to see it NOW. Because they've realised they'll do all their business in week 1 before word of mouth kills it, and those who may have put seeing it off for a week or 2 until the initial wave died down might not bother seeing it at all.

Ie there's the first group who want to see it NOW, the second who want to see it SOON but hate massive queues and crowds, the third who want to see it a bit later and the fourth who will wait and see what others say before spending their hard-earned. They want as many as they can get to move from groups 2 and 3 to group 1.

Better the gradual "slow reveals" than showing all your wares at high volume and tempo in what is essentially one big money shot.

Yea i get what you are trying to say.
But im not about to second guess a producers intentions.
The footage looks good, and yea the trailer was cut together in a rather cheesy fashion.
But that could be because any number of different reasons... Marketing is a funny old thing...
Ill wait till i read some early screening reviews before i give any sort of judgment.
Certainly wont base anything on a trailer.

you don't really see many trailers that are NOT made in this convention these days anyway. Looks interesting, even though I haven't seen the original. If I get the spare moment to visit a cinema to see it I will, probably. Tonnes of CGI and mythology? sign me up, dammit.

Wow...REALLY??.....LMAO.....need I remind you guys that this is a remake of a.......wait for it.....cheesy Ray Harryhausen flick from the early 80's? A Sword and Sandal action movie about a half god half human guy taking on the pantheon of greek gods, so he can defeat the ugly bad guy and save the busty, scantily-clad heroine?

It's not exactly Shakespeare, but it was never intended to be.

This is EXACTLY what it looks like. A bombastic, over the top, cheesy, cliched, special effects-driven fantasy movie. End of story. There is nothing to see here beyond that. If you thought they could make a completely serious, dramatic, script driven action film about this subject, then I am afraid you are completely missing the point. This story is for enjoyment, plain and simple. That's it. It is butt in the seat, action popcorn fare that makes you smile. The kind of thing you KNOW is over-the-top, but that just makes it awesome nonetheless.

If you can't understand that, then I can't help you. It bothers me to no end when people pick apart trailers (for a start, I'm not even going to tell you why...it's just boneheaded to do so), but bugs me even more when people get on their high horse about how it looks like typical cheese, and how overblown it looks, or the music is just boom-boom-boom in time with the words (Sorry Sombra, you get the crap end of my ire-stick here). Have you ever cut a trailer? Do you know the word MARKETING? hehe

But then, I personally go to these sorts of movies to ESCAPE reality and live for a little while in a fantasy world where things might not always be Oscar worthy, or thought provoking, but at least they give me something fun to ride and some 'splody for my eyes.

Appreciate these films for what they are. If EVERY film I went to was the type of film these complainers seem to be looking for, I wouldn't bloody well go, cause that would just be boring.

I say this all as a fully involved member of the Toronto International Film Festival for the last ten years, so I'm no stranger to a variety of cinema. Saying that, Sombra, should you ever hit a festival....skip the genre films, Midnight Madnesses ect.....the ones that always sell out fast, cause you'd never enjoy it.

Yes I KNOW all that, but this one just looks ... WORSE ... for some reason. It's like a cliche of a cliche, but without the self-irreverence.

Look, I enjoyed Transformers 2 (in parts), or at least the 8 year old in me did, because that's what I knew it was. I like popcorn stuff as much as the next guy. It's just that this one seems to be NOTHING BUT sheer incoherence. I know saying that compared to Trans 2 is a big call, and it may not even be that way. It may be a LOT better. But based on that trailer - I'd say not. But I am quite willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Besides, there is escapism and then there is just illogical, inconsistent-within-it's-own-worldrules-never-mind-any-vague-reference-towards-reality shit. Like 2012. Geez, I'm STILL angry about that.

Sometimes it gets to the stage where you can't enjoy the awesome FX because you're pissed off at the excuse for a script. I know these popcorn movies just have enough plot to connect a series of cool action scenes, but would it be too much to ask that the writing be a tiny better so as to aid with our willing suspension of disbelief? I doubt it would cost any more, or take any longer, and it may even help get them and extra half-star that may sway some more people to go see it as well as those who would see it regardless.

I enjoyed a lot of the Harryhausen stuff as a kid, but even then I still thought the original Clash of the Titans was shit. Seriously, it is a very bad film.

Hmm, I guess you could say I dislike the extremes of movie-making. Either the most mindless drivel or the awards candy that the beret-wearing latte sippers masturbate over (while secretly having no more idea about it than the rest of us, they just want to think they're better).

As to 2012....what were you expecting? LOL. I was expecting Roland Emmerich to blow up the world better than he has done in his past blow up the world-movies....and that's what I received.....was it landmark filmaking....no way! Was it plausible? Not even a bit....the whole opening while Cusack is able to maneuver his stretch limo through Santa Monica as it is breaking up and shit is flying all around him was probably one of the most unrealistic things ever put to celluloid.

but in the end I wasn't asking for more than for Rolly to blow up the world....and I got that, so I feel I got my money's worth.

I read the synopsis of the original Clash of the Titans and let me just say that the basic story is EXACTLY like the ancient Greek style story.

Also, as to the remake, re-imagining might be a better word. There's something about Perseus having lost his family to Hades, and going on a suicide mission in the new one that doesn't seem to be in the old one.

Either way this made me think 300 (obviously since it's Legendary Pictures) + Guillermo del Toro + a fraction of Sam Raimi (Xena, Hercules).

Saw quite a long trailer for this when I went to see Sherlock Holmes the other day (I know, don't shoot me) and hot damn it looks gorgeous on a big screen.




Although Liam Neeson is... slightly out of place. I can't take Qui-Gon Jin seriously as Zeus.

Yeah, he's the one bit of casting I am quite uneasy about....I mean he's trying to fill the shoes of Laurence Olivier...he does look out of place.

Heard its a decent eye candy movie.

BUT

Apparently the 3D rendering is absolutely shocking, the movie was not intended to be 3D so was not shot for 3D. but because of AVATAR they decided to make it a 3D movie in post and its apparently some of the worst 3D rendering some reviewers have ever seen.
So if you can...watch the 2D version.

Heard the same about the 3D bits.

Re-watched the original a few weeks back. Fun and cheesy, just like I remembered it. The robot owl rocked the movie.
