It would appear that one of the houses near me is on fire!

A bunch of fire engines have pulled up in front of my house and disgorged their occupants, who started scurrying around like particularly purposeful mice.
It would seem that one of the empty houses on the next street over has been set alight. There are a load of empty properties around here, as the area is due for regeneration over the next few years. Compulsory purchase orders were flying around all over the place for the past few years. Not on my house though, my landlord would have made a mint and I would have had to be rehoused and received a load of compensation... But I was born under an unlucky star...

Anyway. It's a fair blaze that would appear to have been going for quite a while as it has burned through the roof of the property. The streets are being closed off to deter gawkers like myself and to stop through traffic.

As the flashing lights and noisy pumps are parked right outside my front door, I would hape everything gets sorted out pretty quickly. Mainly as I have to be up for work in the morning to start my new job and my bedroom is at the front of the house. Selfish, I know; but there's nothing I can do about the rest of the situation, as it doesn't concern me. So all I can really do is whinge about the possible inconvenience it might cause me personally...

[edit - Thanks for the friendly mod deletion... I'm really bad at starting topics... ;)]

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I had been considering throwing a couple of my neighbour's children on to it. But I can't get that near to the fire or the children. And I think she might object.

It should save on some regeneration demolition work! Good luck with getting a kip tonight. Firemen like to drag their jobs out.

Well, if I'm still posting on here at four in the morning, you'll all know why. I had wanted to be in work early tomorrow too....

They've finally buggered off and I can think about going to sleep now. They could at least have been more considerate about where they parked their great big noisy engine. People are trying to sleep, for goodness sake!

I mean what is the world coming to when a man can't sleep at night because the fire brigade are outside his house and making loads of noise, risking their lives to save someone's property. It's political correctness gone mad, I tell you...

You should have gone out with a cup of tea wearing your "robe de chambre" (the english name escaped me) and tried to start a conversation with the guy at the pump.

Britain: It would appear that one of the houses near me is on fire!

Anywhere else: FIRE!!! FUCK!!! WE NEED SOME HELP OVER HERE!!!!!!!

:)
Kif: Sir, remember your course correction?
Captain Zapp: No.
Kif: Well, it's proving somewhat more suicidal than we'd initially hoped.

I still say we should have gone with the 'retasked surplus soviet satellite down the gravity well' option. At least with retro-rockets we can adjust mid flight. But noooOOoooo, you just HAD to go all Ronnie Reagan and use the laser and now look what happened... How the fuck did you target Scandinavia and instead almost wipe out a forumite in the UK??? Admit it, you forgot to factor in planet rotation motion and atmosphere deflection angle again, didn't you? Fuck.

Now we have to scrub all the forumites locations out of the system, reboot the AI and start all that calibration and co-angulation test crap again.

*sigh*... okay, tell Assail to stop complaining about the burns and start running again and Stone Monkey, please remember you saw nothing.

- Abyss, ...KNEW the satellite was a better idea but does anyone listen, nooOOoooo....

lasers and satelites are to high tech to work on Apt, he is too Choatic to ever be tracked down or targetted like that... you need a simplier method, such as poisoning the beer in Aptland.... or a crack team of Ninja Pirates
