In South Africa, Athletics meets have less to do with athletics and more to do with this..

We have inter-schools athletics meets once a year with our main rival schools in our area.
The whole school goes along to support the athletes...it used to just be a cool day off for the rest of us.
And the school with the best cheers got a "spirit award".
As we went through high school it got more and more serious...and now days the spirit award is just as big, if not bigger, than the Athletics itself...its crazy.
