Just browse the Mod forum here:
Mount and Blade Mod forum

I think the Lord of the Rings one is being updated for the latest version of M&B so you might need to download and older version to play it. Its been a while since I checked it. But there's heaps of Mods there have a look around.

Once you install them you get a drop down list when mount and blade starts and you can just pick which Mod you want to run.

I believe they're adding mulitplayer in September to the game... looking forward to that :)

Yes, 'warbands' expansion pack i think.

Multiplayer tournaments!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

The fighting is awesome in this game; by far better than die by your sword, which was just ungainly. The rest of the game is, however, shit. The day they make the thing an actual medieval sandbox I'll come back to it. But definitely worth a try for the fighting.

I downloaded the 1257 mod. It upgrades the textures on the armour, weapons, horses etc and makes the campaign map more realistic, in hi res now. The bright faction colours are gone, and replaced with better banners. Looks great.

I deleted the game.
Never enjoying hack and slash and not having a free mouse only my little laptop mousepad, combat is ungaingly to say the least, the initial capture said renegade quests were even frustrating as the view point kept screwing round when i move fingers too quickly.
With combat a bitch money raising was reduced to message runner until i got some coin gathered (the occasional collect debt or raise taxes were a helpful boost) only benefical note of running letters is, one kingdom is enough to keep you permanently running, and all th elords of said realm love you.
But one hit by an efficient band of raiders and your fracked.

Once I did get enough men gathered up to be effective, was able to keep myself in money and the like, it got boring becuase the combat aspect wsa so frustrating I'd jsut sit back and let my soldiers do the work.

need a new better laptop with racy cordless mouse

ETA: back to Rome for the next few days of non work
I will conquer the known world/!!!

There the second age mod which takes the native game world and redoes it with a some of the best mods there is.

The Napoleanic War mod looks nice.

The last days which is an lotr mod look fantastic.

For an indie title it a fantastic game. And it is imperative to have a mouse. You will have trouble otherwise.

So I am Vaegir - and me and my loyal retinue of 50 knights cut through enemy armies like gimli cuts through orcs.

My only problem is the Khegani Khafirit or w/e. Their Lancers are no trouble, their footman are cake, but their damn horse archers hur thurt hurt.

How do I destroy their horse archers? I built a block of sharpshooters on a hill and tried to let them come to me, but somehow their horse archers are stronger than my Marksmen. Are they the strongest militarily? The nords and swadians and ... third guys... are cake, but these guys hurt a lot. I am worried they might take one of my castles, although I suppose if they can't use their mounts, I should be able to do ok in a seige battle.... hrm.

Good news: the Khergit suck at sieges. Depending on how good your own character is with crossbows, you could help your archers a hand by shooting their horses from underneath them. They're far less intimidating once dismounted. Alternatively, try to raise some fast light cavalry somewhere (don't know if there's a lot of that in the vanilla version) that can chase these guys down.

I've been playing the 1257 mod.

I now have around 75 warriors in my band, mostly Knights, Rhodok nobles and spearmen. I also have a castle, which I've stuffed with skirmishers, crossbowmen, archers etc. to stop the damn Kherjits, as they only ever seem to attack in huge numbers. But they do suck at sieges.

Since I now have a lot of mounted troops, I can handle the Khergits ok; lancing their horses, or taking them out with my military scythe, which also seems to work well. And, with 75 men it is possible to take on bigger enemy bands - I defeated 175, and captured their Lord, who is now residing in my prison tower.

Hopefully he'll have some more company soon - I plan on capturing as many Nord lords as I can, then having a pop at one of their towns.

Best moment yet - standing at the top of a ladder with a military scythe, chopping into repeated waves of attackers until there was a huge mound of dead blocking the way in, and I was red from head to foot...

I should go get that mod, I think... So far have only been playing the (horse) archery type, but the satisfaction in shooting their archers in the face from a siege ladder while they're trying to shoot mine, or killing enemies from a tower, safely out of their reach (not to mention shooting a guy down while charging full tilt at him) is immense.

Been Playing the base game, and Figured out how to take out the Khegit.

I caputured 3 nord castles and the stupid king only gave me one. Then all the nords not locked up in my other castle showed up and took the castle from me. It was over 1000 to ~150 - and it was only spawning me 6 units at a time - that blew because my troops were all leveled all the way up, but 5v50 won't cut it like that.

I think you can change the settings to allow more people in the battle at the same time?

To get my 1st castle - I took 3 castles in quick succession, but wasn't allowed to keep them (renown was only around 400) so I renounced my vow to the king, which he was ok about, went back and took a castle as a rebel; then went back to the king and took my oath up with him again. This probably only works if you have a high standing with the king, but it's better than just turning rebel, and you at least get to keep the castle.

1257 is a good mod; quality over quantity I think. It looks nice, but there is a reduction in weapons that weren't around at the time. Tournaments are all knights, missions have been tweaked for accuracy, and there are loads of new banners.

I should use the bow a bit more - currently during a seige I get to the top first, jump over/through the front row, and take out the archers while my warriors pile in behind.

I only figured out recently that the order that your men enter the battle is decided on the party screen with the 'move up/down' buttons - so for a siege, its no good having all your mounted troops at the front like a normal battle, but spearmen followed by archers. :)

Well, you can give directions during the fight - if you order the swordsman and spearman up the ladders, the archers can hold ground a bit further away, and fire up at the walls.

Well mostly it just ends up as a big free for all anyways... :) but if the enemy have a strong shield wall, the swordsman get stopped, and block those behind from advancing. If the back ranks have spears though, they can still do a bit of damage.

There is a mod somewhere that allows more than one ladder during seiges, which could be interesting.
