Also watched from Paris with love.

it was silly over the top madness.
but that was what I expected.

Travolta plays his part to perfection, its a switch brain off wrecking fest, which suited my mood well at the time.
The film itself, the plot would actually fit well in a proper spy thriller, but it works well for the ott shoot first ask questions at some stage possibly philosophy of Travolta's character. The rest of the cast was a general "hmm, they'll do" nothing stood out, they did a job, and the job seemed to be set John up for wackyness.

So, after being totally terrified of everything that looks remotely like an alien for 13 years, ever since my parents let me watch Tommyknockers as a kid, I decided to man-suit up and watch the original Alien movie from 1979. The next night I watched Aliens, and then the day after that I watched Alien 3. I expected to be terrified, to have nightmares and such...

I must admit I am a little disappoint.

I was startled once or twice, but not properly scared! W00t? The movies were longwinded, a little boring, and basically it's the same story over and over again. Ripley goes somewhere, aliens show up, aliens sneak unseen aboard the ship, Ripley lures it out of some sort of hatch. How the hell did the Queen Alien manage to sneak onto the chopper/plane/ thing without them noticing? That thing is effin huge!!

Also, what the hell is up with these giant space ships with tiny crews that never seem to get to their designated destinations?

Should I even bother with Alien: Resurrection? How could they even make a fourth film after how the third ended?

You are watching the wrong movies if you want to be scared of "aliens". I'd recommend (not really, I couldn't finish watching it) Fire in the Sky, The Fourth Kind, The Forgotten, before the actual Aliens franchise.

Four is okay, but doesn't really compare to the first two.

Are you kidding? Aliens was the only movie to scare the shit out of me when l was a kid. I had watched all those so called horror movies, Friday the 13, Nightmare on Elm St, Hellrasier and so on, but Aliens is the only movie that has ever made me hide behind the crouch in terror.

I was never that fond of the first Alien either, all though the part where the cyborg freaks out, tries to stuff a magazine down Ripleys throat and they bash its head off has always haunted me. That was fucking scary and disgusting. But it certainly was something special. Especially the opening scenes in the Alien space ship and the chest burster scene.

Aliens how ever was awesome. It was more action than horror. Few things are as awesome as the scene where Ripley battles the Queen. And I loved all the Marine battles.

I loved the third because of the oppressive atmosphere and the great characters.

The 4th I wont spoil but it had some pretty disgusting moments and the Ripley clone was awesome.

I'm starting the morning by watching The Hunt for Red October. Damn this film is cool and it's been so long since I last watched it that I can't quite recall the ending.

Also, I noticed that they didn't bother putting silly Russian accents on the actors in this film, which is normally one of my pet peeves. If a person is speaking in their own language they don't have an accent.

I saw the first alien when i was seven, the scene where john hurts chest explodes was totally mindblowing to a nipper and scared me shitless. Nothing had been done like that before but it has of course since lost its impact. For pure scare value the early carpenter movies are good, or for a more recent movie watch rec or rec 2...they were awesome!

Yeah, The Forgotten was really creepy...I have the Fourth Kind waiting on a my computer. I'll probably watch that one soon then:)

Yeah, of the three the second was the most entertaining. I'll admit that all the movies had their wow-moments, but I wasn't exactly wowed by the total sum of the films. Although the first one held up pretty good to be over 30 years old.

I've actually seen Rec, or the American version which is called Quarantine. It wasn't very good...maybe rec is better.

It's somewhat "weird", but doesn't hang its hat on trying to be weird. It has a nice amount of violence (if that is your thing), but doesn't hang it's hat on that either. The pacing is sometimes slow, but overall allows Tom Hardy show his chops. I did have somewhat of an issue with the production quality of the audio.... maybe that's just me though (being a yank), I'm not so much in tune with a British accent (of course that is one of the things that makes it awesome... similar to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch).

The DVD has nice extras... one of which covers how Tom Hardy changed his physical form to fit the role.

FISH TANK - Chav girl's life sux, wants to knock boots with Bradley Cooper lookalike. Well acted, somewhat distrubing, curiously charming. Worth a look. You may need the subtitles to understand it.

NINE - Vanity piece of crap adaptation. Astounding how they got a cast this good for a movie this bad. Watch the Fergie number online and pretend the film never existed.

THE MAID - It sucks to be a maid in south america and it sucks to watch a movie about her.

COOKING WITH STELLA - An insult to film. Manages to offend Canadians, Indians, chefs, servants, diplomats with its sheer stupidity level. If anyone suggests you see this film they clearly worked on it and want to inflict their evil on you. Gut them immediately.

CLASH OF THE TITANS - Big silly almost fun. Glad i didn't pay theater money to see it.

DATE NIGHT - Carrell and Fay can make anything funny. Donnie Wahlberg's pecs make me sad.

Bronson is pretty weird, I'd say. But well good. Oddly enough, I just now watched Valhalla Rising by the same director, also pretty weird and well good. Almost the total opposite in some ways, Hardy's Bronson is a mental gabby hyperactive fuck and the film follows suit in its editing and such whereas Mads Mikelsen is mute in a very, very slow film. But Mads Mikelsen is awesome.


Also watched Where The Wild Things Are, which is fantastic. Again not a film for everyone, but I thought it was wonderful.

I find Brits difficult to understand as well, so it's not just you yanks
