Finally got to watch THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY.

It's really quite good overall.

Buried in there is a phenomenal film about whimsy, and life, and journey, and beauty. It's got some stumbly moments, and a few scenes that are a bit too goofy for the tone that Stiller should have been reaching for...but overall it's actually pretty damned good, and the ending punched me right in the emotional gut.

I think in another directors hands (this was Stiller's work) it could have been pitch perfect and the moments that stick out a bit are easily chalked up to his style...and I should note that this is leaps and bounds ahead of his other director work (REALITY BITES, or TROPIC THUNDER ect.) I will say that I think that Stuart Drybrugh was the wrong choice for cinematographer here. He is able to get the most out of the 3rd act travel scenes and the early dayream sequences...but all I kept thinking was...what could Lance Accord or Janusz Kamisnki or someone of that ilk have done with this subject matter. Don't get me wrong, Dryburgh is good, and pulls the right stops on a lot of wide shots...but the mediums and closeups a lot of the time fall a bit flat.

Overall I'm more impressed with it than I'd thought it would be with it.

But then I LOVE this type of film.

Furious 7
A dumb movie with god awful acting. Someone needs to get wise about Tyrese Gibson and remove him from the F&F franchise. On the plus side, I had eyegasms at all the car destruction porn and testostaroonie guy and girl fights.

Man, I would love to drive some of them cars. vroooom vroooom ...schreeeeeeech.... kerrrrrkraaaaw.. psssshhhhhhhhh.....Posted Image

New FANTASTIC 4 trailer

Blerg...I mean I want to have an open mind, but this just doesn't look or FEEL like the FF to me.

Also the Thing needs his rock eyebrows...otherwise he's NOT The Thing. Full, fucking, stop.

I think it looks pretty nifty. It's gonna come down to how credible Doom is though, really.

Yeah, I'm currently increasingly on board with 'it looks like a good film if not a good FF film' but so much is riding on Doom.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I ll pass on seeing that at movies. I ll watch it a yr later when HBO gets it.

Uh from my limited FF knowledge as a child that is going WAY off the path.

It's basically keeping the names, and the way they get their powers and what those powers are...from what I can see, that's it though.

And I don't like the effects on Human Torch's flying/flame on...which sucks cause I think the only part of the trailer I DO like is Michael B. Jordan's Johny Storm characterization, which seems to be spot on. The flame effects in the cheesier FF movies was better...and that shouldn't be so.

Since I'm reading a book about the Dyatlov Pass Incident, I decided to sit down and watch Renny Harlin's fount footage movie based on it DEVIL'S PASS.

In it, a modern American group of students become obsessed with the half-century old mystery of the 9 experienced Russian hikers who lost their lives in the Ural moutnains on a routine hiking excursion with a bunch of weird facts.

To be honest, I was expecitng a hokey horrow flick based around the events...and the trailer even leads one to believe this is a knockoff Blair Witch Project...and for about half of it, you'd be not wrong in that summation...but then Harlin turns the tables on you, and the last act is not only compelling, but COMPLETELY surprising and inventive.

I was WAY more imprssed than I thought I'd be. Well worth the watch, and if you find it hokey at the beginning, just stay tuned for the final section.

Woot! Enjoy! Also, this means you should see the Star Wars teaser in the theatre.

I won't get to see it till at least next weekend/

*green with envy*

Enjoy! I won't be catching it till Monday after next (which I just realized is Star Wars Day, how appropriate). Let us know your thoughts after viewing!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I got to see it last night and it is a worthy instalment...

Cap 2 still has my vote for the best Marvel film but this sits comfortably with the first Avengers film for me, probably the funniest film yet with the one liners!

Don't miss the start or you'll regret it, after 10 seconds it's into some major action!

Had plenty of set up for Phase 3 too and some unexpected moments!

I had heard that there wasn't an after credits scene but there was so don't miss that either... shit is about to hit the fan!!!!!

I KNEW Whedon was lying when he said there wasn't a post-credits scene! The bastard!

Saw it earlier today and I liked it. It was really good, but I still feel like it lacked a certain....something..? Not sure what it was, but I definitely feel like it lacked something.

But still, it was, as you say, a worthy installment.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I think the problem is they've set the bar high now and it's hard to meet expectations, if we didn't have the first Avengers film and this was our entry for action assemble then we'd probably be raving!

There were some awesome scenes and moments but nothing absolutely mind blowing bognuts that had you walking away talking about it in astonishment! Maybe that is what was lacking, the fact we'd seen some of it before reflected in the first film and this more complimented rather than topped that!

A solid entry but not the game changer!

Excellent film. Thoroughly enjoyable. It was, to some extents a bit deeper, a bit darker and a bit more serious. But it didn't lose the witty dialogue the great one liners and the general Whedon goodness.

Also for those who like destruction on a grand scale and mega fight scenes, you're in for a treat!

Hmm, that's actually pretty damn clever I think. A nice little combination of billboards and word of mouth advertising.

Watched "Going Clear", the Scientology Documentary.

It made me sad. I thought I'd be angry, and there's some there, but mostly I'm just sad for these people. I want the douchebags in charge to go down for multiple reasons, but I feel bad for the people. It's a cult.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Age of Ultron was epic, in a predictable sort of way. Plenty of laughs with a couple of good running gags/ironic echo lines that got good mileage without tipping into "too much" territory. Whole theater was pretty entertained.

...except the guy who fell asleep behind me. HOW DO YOU FALL ASLEEP IN AN AVENGERS MOVIE?!?!?

Also:

SPOILER
Spoiler

It could have done more here and there, but all around it was a good fun romp. I only feel like they need to work on the plot a bit more - overall its clearly coming together (see: post-credits scene) but I think they might need to an Avengers that is a bit more "big picture" next. Or a Guardians. But something to break out of the Avengers-movie formula. I have faith it'll all work out, though.
