James Cameron is the master of the big splash that distracts from the actual content. He's done it for every movie and every science expedition.

Just got out of Django, it was a laugh riot.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The Mrs went and saw ZERO DARK THIRTY without me. ;)

She says it was fantastic.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

All flaws in, AVATAR was still better than INDIANA JONES AND THE CRYSTAL SKULL.

Saw RUST AND BONE (DE ROUILLE ET D'OS)... French movie, has been picking up awards and nominations all over. Totally worth seeing. Great performances, interesting human drama, suprisingly positive and not depressing for a movie involving amputation, illegal MMA fights and the odd orca (the trailer makes it look way way darker than it is).

Re-watched THE ROCK (as my gf received it on BluRay for Xmas)...that movie still holds the fuck up! SO GOOD.

Nic Cage and Sean Connery gave amazing performances.

But then, Sean Connery has been "the Man" for his entire goddamned life.

Best line is still "Losers always whine about their best, winners go home and fuck the prom queen."

Mediocre plot notwithstanding, Avatar was worthwhile for the 3D alone, which was the most beautifully rendered that I've seen, before or since.

Be fair - the action in the raid IS tremendous, but its not exactly brimming with quotable lines.

The Rock on the other hand.....

"I've been in jail longer than Nelson Mandela, so maybe you want me to run for president?"

"Yes, perfectly fine, you ***king idiot"
meh. Link was dead :(

Yeah, true said.

My actual favourite action film ever is one of Terminator 2 or Kick-Ass, but they're obvious...

Or maybe Con Air. Especially for quotable lines.

Recent viewings:

Billy Jack - hippy dippy movie about a 1/2? Native American (who looks 100% white bread, by the way) who uses violence to help his pacifist girlfriend keep her school open in the face of opposition from corrupt cops and other local cronies. Good movie in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. Laugh out loud funny in places, probably unintentionally. I also tried to watch one of the sequels, Billy Jack Goes To Washington, but it was so painfully boring I quickly abandoned it.

VHS - one of those "found footage" movies like Paranormal. As with most of those kinds of movies, it was overrated. I didn't really understand how or if any of the storylines were supposed to connect to each other. It was admittedly creepy and entertaining in places.

St. Trinian's - Rupert Everett stars in a double role as a weird headmistress of an English girls' boarding school and her roguish twin brother. Funny and well worth a rental.

Green Hornet - This was controversial for some, but I thought the comedy worked very well. The Green Hornet is a super hero that fell out of popularity well before my time, so I guess the material isn't sacrosanct enough for me to be offended that it wasn't taken more seriously.

Ah yes, TMN has been running these lately... i vaguely recall seeing BILLY JACK ages ago and thinking the facekicking scenes were pretty awesome. It didn't age well.

Saw the Hobbit today in the high frame rate, 3D in an IMAX theater. One of the previews was a long (9min) excerpt from Star Trek Into Darkness. Holy Shit! I'm calling it now, best summer movie 2013! Movie is going to be ridiculously awesome!

Also Man of Steel, and maybe Kick-Ass 2 and Fast 6 (though I doubt those two will live up to their predecessors).

I'm also dead looking forward to the Korean invasion of Hollywood - The Last Stand, Stoker, and Snow Piercer are all the first English-language films of highly rated Korean directors unleashing their madness on the unsuspecting audiences.

And Ryan Gosling is going to take over the world.
