I always fall asleep watching the first part of Deer Hunter for some reason.

In my opinion he had much more exciting roles in movies like Raging Bull and Cape Fear. He was amazing in Cape Fear.

The thing about his performance in Deerhunter is that he did it all. Quiet, lovable, hard man, killer, brave friend, shellshocked, alienated, patriotic. It was all in that role. It's my favorite of his performances because he played it so tightly and the cast by pure force of conviction made that movie legendary.

I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Y'know Amph, that recommendation of Stardust as the ideal movie to watch with a lady friend turned out quite well. Plus I hadn't seen it before, so cheers.

Glad to hear. It's always good to hear that I've helped a little happiness come into the world.

Now get Soul Kitchen. It is in German, with subtitles, but still gets the same "Excellently done date movie" groove going.

Watched Inception again last night. I still find it amazing Nolan didnt get a Best Director nod. And how the hell is the girl from True Grit nominated for best SUPPORTING acctress. She was the star of the movie and in every damn scene.

I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

The wife and I caught GONE WITH THE WIND on the classic movie channel Saturday night. While it contains some jaw-droppingly naive meditations on race in antebellum America (the author was a Southerner, after all), the movie still holds up as THE classic movie from an era when going to the movies was an event you dressed up for.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

So my latest movie process,,,

the wifey and I have the Movie Box, (which she arts and crafted together) We put on little pieces of paper our favorite movies ie movies we believe must be watched, we sprinkle in new releases (on DVD) and a few other strongly suggested movies.

We have a movie night several times a week where I take the box, shake it up and she draws one out (without looking) and we watch whatever movie comes out...

The results have turned out great. Either she watches one of my favorite movies, or I get to watch a movie she loves which I probably would have never watched without the box. Also with the new releases and other good movies mixed in it works out perfect. I recommend putting some of the top 100 or top 250 in a box if you make one.

Also dont argue with the box, keep redrawing to a minimum, just sit back and enjoy with an open mind.

Hey Zanth, good to see you back here. Also, awesome idea for a movie night. I have several good movies which i still haven't watched as i will often rewatch a favourite older movie instead.

May have to break out this idea in my new flat, since i have no idea what the others like.

I have lovefilm, and a large stash of collection, we don't usually rent we buy or order off lovefilm and it can take a while for the lovefilm to arrive, usually 3 days

Yeah, it was a ridiculous crapfest.

The American was pretty good. Gave it 5 stars on Netflix, but it'd really be an 8.5 out of 10 for me.

The Informant was well-executed, but not a good movie. No essential story worth paying attention to.

Finally got around to watching RED last night and as adaptations go it was not bad at all. As you would expect all the big hitters performed admirably with Bruce Willis playing a slight variation of virtually every role he's ever had, Helen Mirren looking gilftastic and Cox and Malkovich hamming it up to maximum effect.

I must say I am quite well positively surprised by Affleck's directing and the overall quality of both films. They seem real in the sort of way in which The Wire felt real. I do reccomend both - maybe they're not groundbreaking, but they're really good, solid films.

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. This also depends on your ethics... Downloading movies is an option as well as Netflix and Hulu... maybe Itunes as well
My laptop is hooked up to my tv and I have a 1 terabyte external and a 1.5 TB external.

We make sure we can watch every movie in our box on demand... We own a lot of movies and I have obtained many downloaded movies..

maybe I should post a list of all the movies we have watched due to the box so far...

after I kill some zombies that is...
