Took the kids to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Fun movie and well done, I recommend it.

Watched The Lovely Bones because Alice in Wonderland was sold out. It wasn't very good.

Well, it's not that bad. It's just that because it is about the rape and murder of a teenager but with a 12A certificate, it plays it safe whilst still trying to be a bit sinister and falls wide of the mark on all aspects.

Oh yeah, if it hasn't got a graphic rape scene in it then I won't even consider watching a film

Well of course nobody wants to see that. But the book is really ambiguous about the way she died until near the end because it is coming from her ghosts perspective and she's really innocent. The movie alludes to it all the way through because it wants to play on the feelings of the audience but as it is a 12A, the undercurrent isn't horrifying enough to accomplish that aim. So it isn't innocent enough to be beguiling and isn't sinister enough to be gripping. Wide of the mark on all points!

Just saw Event Horizon for the first time ever. Flipping mental film, quite literally. Very good, pretty tense thriller.

I always liked the idea that Hell has Braille signs.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

There's obviously no relation to the original 'Bad Lieutenant' other than the title right? Funny enough I picked up 'Bangkok Dangerous' a few weeks ago. Figured I'd give Cage one more shot. Haven't watched it yet though.

My advice would not to make Bangkok Dangerous.... bah, just trying to formulate a proper sentence with that movie in it is impossible. It sucks, watch something else.

Saw Alice in Wonderland, very amusing and surreal. Saw Legion, was OK and theologically horrendous! Going to see Shutter Island in a bit!

Ok Apt, prepare to get excited, it would appear that HUGO WEAVING has been cast as the Red Skull in the upcoming Captain America movie, this can only be a good thing right ?

Saw Serenity this morning. It was okay. Not nearly as awesome as the show, but cool nevertheless.

:p :p Okay??? The film is a masterpiece that finishes off the show in a fantastic way!

Just got back from seeing Shutter Island. It's definitely worth a watch though I will post a more detailed review in the Shutter Island thread. :)

I got twenty minutes into Boondock Saints 2 and had to turn it off. It kept completely blowing away any shred of immersion I had in it. Too bad, as the first is quite frankly, awesome.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
