@Anomander:
Spoiler

One of the few times I've wanted to actually buy comics, really.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I watched it last night, and I actually felt that it was an excellent way to end the series. I really liked the ending, and also the lack of 'cheer' moments or laughter lines, all of which combined to make a very evocative movie from where I was sitting. A certain scene in Jean-Grey's house gave me shivers in the way that only the Darth Vader/Skywalker final revelation on Bespin had done before that.

However, I'll be the first to assert that my taste in films is quite heavily balanced towards films that are predominantly sad rather than jubilant, and as my sister regularly reminds me, this isn't a taste shared by 'normal' people :(.

Oh and I know I said it before, but wait til the credits finish to see the end. There is a small added bit at the end that makes it rather interesting...

What? I certainly didn't want to sit through 10 minutes of credits just to see if there was anything.

I didn't mind the movie *tries to be heard over loud protests from almost everyone else* but it certainly could have been better, as most USAnian films.
The end was crappy, Wolverine should hae been reduced to small particles at the same rate as everyone else. He doesn't heal that fast, dammit!

As to killing off the characters, remember the Marvel law of death:
It applies permanently only to Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben, all other charaters are allowed to come back when sales drop.

Nope, Onslaught is the incarnation of Xavier "dark side" and Magnoto's spirit that was created just after that Xavier provoques a shut down of Magneto's brain.
Onslaught almost kills the one you have cited, but end killed when the Avenger sacrifce them self. Their souls would be saved after by Benjamin Francklin, son of Mr.Fantastic and a class Omega mutant (what they called level 5 in the film).

The evenment of the film seem to me more or less based on the Day of the Mutant serie, where the daughter of Magneto (Scarlet Witch ? I can't recall her name) creates a alternative reality where more than 95 % of the mutant loose their powers (among them Rogue, Magneto and more than a lot of other others).

See wikipedia for more infos, their quite good.

In facts yes he can heal that fast, but only during the time where Magneto had taken (a little painfully) all adamantium from his body. His power of healing passes at full strengh (he almost heal more quickly that injures are done to him) as the adamantium is a very poisonous product.

Another point taht every one must keep in mind his that those film can't possibly resume a 50 years old comic. They made choices to make it more or less understandable for a very large public and from this point of view they have managed.
The thing that bored my the more was the passage between the Bridge scene and the attack : Bridge scene : End of the day. Attack, around 5 minute after, complete night.
Spoiler

Edit : My bad, it isn't Day of the Mutants bu : Decimation, House of M : The day after.

With their teeth !
If you look, the majority of the mutants don't have weapons either and don't seem to have very powerfull powers (or they don't want to use them in front of the xmen).
And their metal weapon aren't them in a storage room in the fort ?

Oh, so they stole another plot from the comic, then.
I suppose the aliens will clone him a new body in Xmen 4.

The more I think about this movie the angrier I get. The sheer ineptitude of the director. Think of the power of these scenes from X-2: Nightcrawler in the White House, Wolverine faces off against Death Strike, Jean dies, and most of all, Magneto escapes from prison. Go back and look at that scene again. Ian McKellen conjures a kind of nasty that would even make Anthony Hopkins hand his Oscar back. "There's something different about you today, something in your blood..." Nothing, NOTHING in X-3 came even remotely close to even the mundane moments in X-2. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
