The sound of Rain Happiness

Is it just me or is there anything more soothing and relaxing than the sound of rain tipping against the window, gentle lulling you to sleep? Really, I have just absolutely adored the sound of that since I was a child. Hard to describe the feeling really, just awesomeness.
Is it just me?
Is it just me?

I live in a "studio" kind of apartment. With slanting walls just below the buildings roof. So I can hear it when it's raining or storming outside, it's pretty cosy when you're trying to sleep.

Its the best, especially if you have a metal or aluminum roof.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

It's raining here right now. In San Diego, this is a rare event as we get about 12 inches a year. Growing up in the southeastern US, I miss the sound of rain the most.
I think Thunderstorms are so fucking cool. Really miss that being out here.

Sitting outside, under a porch, during a thunderstorm, where the rain falls in that heavy, straight-down, warm, no-wind kinda way, with a mug of coffee in my hands...

I submit that the only thing that beats the sound of rain is the smell of rain.
You won't know what I'm talking about if you live in a concrete jungle or a suburb where every square inch is either paved or under a lawn. But if you live close to nature, there is this smell that pervades everything when it rains... and it is gorgeous.
The minute I detect it I'm off to a porch or off to throw all the windows open

Same here and it is great even with all the rain we get in Manchester! Although, rather than sleeping, I like to get snug in bed, read a good book and have a cup of tea while listening.

You are welcome Centz, this is crazy cool.
...with a beer in one hand and a bacon sandwich in the other, watching 2 girls wrestle in the mud....
Fixed for a better day.

This threads keeps improving! I am impressed with you guys/girls!!!
Also, I completely agree with the thunderstorm. Very relaxing somehow, I wonder if it is part of an evolutionary trait, like when you have the sound of rain/thunderstorms and you are safe in the cave/house then you begin to relax. Well, doesn't sound very likely
Maybe it is more the constant white noise it generates which soothes you. And yes Bent, beer fits perfectly with girls wrestling

It's great when going to sleep.
Not so much when you get up and know that you have to go out into that crap with 80 kph gusts making the rain attack from all vectors and nullifying umbrellas.
