I never liked Sherlock Holmes, and my God, Robert Downey Jr just looks like some half drunk bum/clown that walked in off the street. Jesus. Damn English. ;)
I still heart Goodkind.

The deerstalker hat was an invention of illustrations and then the early movies. Doyle never described Holmes wearing one. I am glad to see them have some fun with the old tropes and injecting a little fisticuffs into the mix.

Downey is one of those actors I'll watch in just about anything (Depp and Mortensen being the others). Add Guy Ritchie to the mayhem and I'm there opening day.

Is this to supposed to be a younger Sherlock Holmes we see before he becomes the, slightly more, sophisticated Holmes of the tales we know?

I don't like this emphasize on Holmes as a fighter at all. I know there are fisticuffs in the books as well, but that's not what the character is about damn it!

Downey on sherlock

Quote

Robert: And then I went and did “Sherlock Holmes” which was technically really difficult and period, but I am kicking ass for 2-1/2 hours and all this stuff I’ve been learning for five years suddenly I’m like co-choreographing with these veteran stunt guys and bad-asses. And I’m in there having this just meat eating, man slaughtering competition with these guys and then at the same time playing a very reserved Brit and that to me was a massive education.

so he is..."very reserved" :D

It doesn't work, silly Dktorode

EDIT: Found a different trailer link:

http://sherlock-holm...r.blogspot.com/

Looks interesting, more spectacular than what I'd actually expect from a Sherlock Holmes film. Sherlock Holmes is not supposed to be all action and flash. I think I'd want a more dialogue driven story.

Also, yet another trailer that reveals far too much of the film. I hate hollywood.

Well damn, now the trailer works for me.

I quite enjoyed the bit with the hammer versus sledgehammer bit and the final scene...

Shrerlock Holmes knows oriental fighting. When Doyle was depressed that his other books were not selling
he killed off SHerlock Holmes by having him and Moriarty wrestle each other off a bridge into a raging sea
and over a falls. The public was pissed so Doyle brought Holmes back to life. Holmes explains to Watson
that he defeated Moriarty by using an ancient style call Ju Jutsui. Moreover, he said that he had to
go into hiding because Moriarty's henchmen were after him. The public acccepted that explanation as
it was glad Holmes returned. For me, there will only be one Sherlock Holmes - Basil Rathbone

Why the hell do my posts get butchered in the final post? I don't type them this way. The Preview
looks fine, but once posted words at the end of a line drop down a line. Then a new line is begun leaving
lines with one word in them???

Thanks, dktorode, but my screenis 15" and I belong to other forumns without having this problem. When I
initally type a post the post the size of the font is smaller than the final product. Tried to incrase the size,
but it doesn't work.

reminds me of "league of extraordinary gentlemen", i see Ritchie had to put in his slow-motion Snatch fight scene (that first punch looks pretty pathetic though, ha! he had to lean into to make it look hard).. looks like fun though..

Yeah, I also thought of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen when I saw all the mystic stuff and weird science they were putting in there.

I quite liked that punch he threw. Thoroughly old school fist fighting going on right there.

I'm not actually sure what you're saying here. You didn't like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

I saw the film before I read the comics and quite liked it. It was one of Connery's last films and had lots of silly over the top fantasy action going on. Like Van Helsing.

The comics are much better though. I still get uncomfortable whem I remember the last "meeting" between Mr Hyde and the Invisible Man.
