What are you thoughts? It's rated as one of my more favourite trilogies out there. I'm a HUGE fan. I don't like the follow up trilogy though. Not a fan.

Anyone, as said, what are your thoughts?

I'm with wry. This is likely the worst fantasy I've read. Some interesting aspects, but the main plot was so cookie cutter good defeats evil I was bored the whole way through.

Plot was very cookie cutter, I'll agree, but I felt shit introduced very cool ideas, that's what I liked about her work the most. Great ideas and and a very cool story.

The MacDonalds of fantasy. Not the worst trilogy I've ever read, the second book was the best (which was a bit weird) and after it was over I felt a bit bloated and queasy. A few days later I realised I could barely remember a thing about the series. Better than David Eddings, but otherwise pretty much a waste of time that could be spent reading some of the much better books out there.

I wouldn't say better than Eddings. Eddings' characters were more memorable, and the plots felt more alive because of the constant travelling.

Douglas possibly had better magic and fight scenes though.

Didn't like it...and I feel Eddings does do better (minus Elder Gods and a few others),
but still this topic is coming from a fan of the Yearded One (*collective gasp*). I know, heresy right?

Sorry Chief, couldn't help but throw that out there lol.

Read it. Some interesting ideas, ripped off from Maggie Furey (_Aurian_). Honestly, if you're going to rip someone off, why would you choose Maggie Furey?
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Battleaxe is one of the few novels I have stopped reading before the end, as it was drivel. Stereotypical plot devices, characters, etc, no imagination, no depth, what I can lah-di-dah fantasy. Very poor indeed.

Referring to a previous entry, Maggie Furey's Aurian (while I managed to finish it), falls into the same category.

Better to rip off someone very few people have ever read rather than someone everyone has?

'Aye.' It's a good word. I think. More a whole attitude than a word, really. With lots of meaning in it, too. A bit of 'yes' and a bit of 'well fuck' and maybe some 'we're all in this together.' So a word to some up the Malazans. <Sunrise>
