I've just finished RG and don't get Hedge's reincarnation. I understand how the Imass exist in an area somehow shielded from the ritual but how does that translate into Hedge's resurrection?

Whilst I'm on the subject of reincarnation when/how did Tool de-Imass and become the leader of the Barghast? Did I totally miss something?

I'm sure someone out there can help me out here.

This Refugium of the Imass had special properties that we don't exactly understand, but basically gave Onrack and Hedge back their flesh, when they crossed into its zone. Warrens are weird.

The interesting question in DOD will be whether Hedge retains his immortality and ascendant ghost powers or he is now just a mortal soldier again.

After the fall of the Panion Domin, Tool became mortal, most likely a gift from Silverfox if I recall correctly. Hetan noticed him and she of course decided to mate with him, because that is what she does. They probably fell in love, and over the passing year(s) Tool proved himself to be worth of leading the White Face after the chief died.

Cheers for that must have missed Tool becoming mortal again?!

I presume that Hedge is mortal. When in the Refugium QB essentially tells Hedge to keep his head down when the 3 sisters are approaching in dragon form, and breaks his nose to prove his point. I took that to mean he can be hurt/die again.

Got to be honest the whole "its mysterious" thing doesn't really do it for me. I think if your going to bring a charecter back from the dead you've got to explain things a little more. Although I suppose that one of the things I like best about Erikson is that he doesn't spoon feed you.

Well, Hedge's inside a human body now, but what would happen if he "died" again. Would he just shrug off the meat and be an ascendant ghost again?

Hmm good question. I suppose the question is what/why he (Bridgeburner) ascended in the first place and what, if anything, has changed should he pop his cloggs again?

Same question as what would happen if Fiddler died, would he automatically ascend, as the other bridge burners, or has he missed that particular boat?

My understanding was that the spirit walker song was the power behind that original ascention, so if that has died away then no more ascension?

IMHO I think it was Paran's Blessing on the bodies in Moon spawn that is more behind the ascension.

Silverfox de-T'lan-ed him. Tool's just Imass human now.
If there were no smart people others wouldn't feel inadequate.

Right?

I thought it was the fact that he gave up his poition as first sword that de tlanned him. If you remember he drops it in front of her possibly severing his tie with the Imass the Kilava asks him where his sword is and how there going to have to make a new one as hell need it 'more than ever'. I think Tool could do it because he held a title amongst the Imass and cut tht tie and became mortal, with Silverfox blessing possibly

I always took that as more of a symbolic thing, sort of saying that even if he wasnt released from the ritual he was no longer of the T'lan Imass anyway but it didnt actually release him from the ritual

The Tanno song has been given credit for their ascension, but I think it was Paran's Blessing that did it. Although I seem to remember that they needed Fid to go back to Raraku for it to happen.. Something about going back to the place where the Bridgeburners were born to make it official.

Also, I'm convinced it was QB's "suggestion" that Paran bless the room that really caused it. He's a sneaky bastard and I know he had hidden motives in doing it.

I think that the Tano spirit walker's song enabled the bridgeburners to become ascendants but it was only Paran's blessing that fully accepted them as ascendants.
A river ever changes in time, but who marks out the new course?
