Its just following the general trend in cricket. Safety first.
And the general downturn in good captains. Aggressive and creative captains have disappeared.
Too many decisions by commitee.

Not "Whingeing" are you CI......

You should leave that up to Ponting, he's rather good. :p
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

England weeps in sympathy.
"pseudoscience and superstition will seem year by year more tempting, the siren song of unreason more sonorous and attractive. Where have we heard it before? Whenever our ethnic or national prejudices are aroused, in times of scarcity, during challenges to national self-esteem or nerve, when we agonize about our diminished cosmic place and purpose, or when fanaticism is bubbling up around us – then, habits of thought familiar from ages past reach for the controls. The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir." - Carl Sagan

As I said CI, leave the whingeing to Ponting after the match ! :p

England need one more wicket to get into the tail, Clarke would be best as he can hang around for a bit, but as soon as Hadden goes it shouldn't take too long.

England are slowly throwing it away, no wicket lost for near 200 runs, 313-5 at close of play.

I'm still hopeful even England can't bottle this, and this partnership will be ended early tomorrow, after which the tailenders shouldn't last anywhere near long enough to reach the required target. One early wicket will probably do this. They reckon no rain tomorrow too, so it's gonna be a good, tense day of cricket.

And I'll be at work and sans updates. Boooo!

Well, it was a fairly aggressive declaration, I suppose. Too aggressive really, unless we do actually get some rain tomorrow. But hopefully there'll be some movement and after a night's rest Freddie et al. will hit their straps tomorrow. I shall spend my evening listening to it from afar.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I think Strauss made a dreadful mistake with the declaration.

I can't abide these bad umpiring decisions. In 2 tests we've now had 7 rank bad decisons, inconsistent use of the TMO and baffling interpretations of the rules

Sunny forcast means good batting pitch, I think even with an early break of the partnership we will be able to get close to a victory.

Bat out the whole day for a draw? Not likely. But scoring 200? we could have a result by first drinks after lunch ;)

1934 was the last one, I believe.

Also, WOOOOOOOOOO! :p

Sir Thursday

EDIT: In the end, Strauss' follow-on/declaration decisions panned out OK ;). No rain delays, and the bowlers came out blasting this morning, by the sound of things. Really hostile from Flintoff, and Anderson sounds like he was getting stuck in too. I definitely prefer seeing England polish the match off with the bowlers as opposed to the batsmen, even if the path we followed to get to victory was not necessarily the optimal one.

MWAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!! ;)

All we have to do now is wait for the customary 40 days of solid rain an English summer brings, and we've re-claimed the Ashes! :)

Calm down Jim !!!

On reflection England made the right decision to bat again .... and give the bowlers a chance to give it their all defending a huge lead .... better odds than your follow on stats .... still this is ENG vs AUS and we had to make hard work of it .... credit to the Aussies .... but more credit to Sir Fred !!!!!

Kylie, Rolf Harris, Dame Edna, Skippy ....... your boys took a hell of a beating ;)

If he can barely stand yet ripped through half your team, it's a worrying commentary on australian cricket, isn't it.
