Chili Peppers, I know it's a while ago but it stil upsets me. First 4 albums were drug amped psychedelic mayhem and stoner funk, live they were GRRRRRR!! thrashy P-funk, compelling the audience to Get up and jump, Fight like braves and kick holes in the sky.
Then....., they got "chic" ( my older sister started to listen to them and she likes Crowded House FFS !), barring the odd stand alone decent song, everything started to sound the same. Then came the Arena tours.
I went to see them a few years back at the Millenium Stadium, supported by James Brown who could still tickle the pickle even though he was in his 70's.
The Chili Peppers, unfortunatley, was like watching old people fuck.

Beastie Boys have fallen sadly.. I love all their old 20 track albums with instrumental/punk interludes.. I figured they would have attracted plenty of interesting production/DJs, but no
10 tracks and one single is all they deem necessary.. They did create an instrumental album that no one listens too, would of been great to mix it in the last rap effort..
Weezer, Metallica, Korn and Dave Matthews also need to stop trying..

weezer - oh god yes, way down the pan with that last one. Pork and beans? more like dog shit and cats vomit.
Regarding bands that don't "evolve" and become stale, Someone put the accusation that AC/DC have made the same album a dozen times to Angus Young, he said they were a filthy liar, it was more like 17/18. Oh lawdy I lol'd. Evolution isn't always good, sure staying the same was bad for the dodo's, but Black Ice was a fine album and gets a regular run on my cd player.
I think the Killers problem was, they worked on Hot Fuss for so long, its simply the best they're ever going to get the chance to produce.

I would add Motorhead to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" category.
Like AD/DC, Motorhead are pretty formulaic and consistent, but I always enjoy each new release.

Not that they were ever good in the first place but I'd add Nickelback to the list. One generic song, repeated over and over and over and over and over
and over
and over...
and over
and over...

I would argue that they stay true to their fans, they have not really changed much...yeah, its generic AOR, but its not like they put out 3 or 4 really cool albums and then changed to a New-Age-Polka-Rap band...

I know i'm not the most cultured person on these boards. But I've only not heard of 6 bands on this whole thread and their right ^ above me.
What kind of music is it?
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

If they are all like AFI then they are heavy rock/alternative bands. AFI has had some good songs, don't know the rest of them.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

But his albums are top notch. No doubting that Thriller is one of the greatest LP's ever laid down on trac.

Two bands to add to this list:
Silverchair who used to be a good group back when they were teenagers but now have found their "true" sound of space age bad pop.
and
U2, especially with their utterly terrible new song "New Boots."

I would dispute that Korn ever had any quality to deteriorate. They were part of the wave of sucky metal/rap fusioncrap, and were never worth listening to by anyone other than angry adolescent boys.
