Free TV ! I wish. Sky, Virgin Media, bastards one and all although you can usually tie in your phone, broadband and digibox for a decent rate.
BBC though, a TV "license" costs about £115, not sure cos I haven't paid it for years ! Hah! oops

Ah Frook my boy you are a wonderful man, a "virgin" box eh?
Free from financial restraints and so different to those other boxes of negotiable virtue.
Nice

Regardless of their performance, the upcoming powerhouse in international football will be an african nation.

V. Interesting...what makes you say that?

I'd tend to disagree on the grounds where there seems to be a distinct lack of money floating around, but look at south America...but still.

The sheer amount of talent coming into the big leagues out of africa is staggering at the minute, thats where the scouts be at my man.

To get the brilliant players, you need people raised playing rough house football, doesn't happen anymore in europe, as soon as a kid looks like being a good player it whipped of to the academy and trained in the school of diving and dodging.

We'll never see a player like Georgie Best again, he learnt his skills because he was getting battered black and blue on the playing fields, co-incidentally I drove past his house in rosetta on Wednesday. Nowadays players rarely have to stand up to a kicking and push through, but the youngsters in Africa for the msot part play their football in the streets, and even the regimented game is rough enough to ensure a sturdier brand of player.

Money isn't really the issue, Enlgand has a ball of it and they're still shite, the Top african palyers are getting the training and coaching they need now at the top clubs, bringing that experience with them to interrnational level. going to Africa is no longer a soft game for the traditional footballing super powers.

Also the passion they bring to the game is lacking for most of the European sides, even Brazil strike me as not giving a shit, too much money for the players in the leagues. Watch the African nations tournament, the frenetic energy of the crowds is breath taking

Anyone think that the American footballers are compensating for something? What with that Tupperware-armour they wear...

Yes, their overpowering manliness compensates for all the rugby fairies.

I'd forgotten just how wonderful Vinnie Jones was, shamefully. I remember the genius and determination he brought to the game of football:

Didn't Vinnie Jones star in a remake of Mean Machine where he replaced that flakey old bumscratch Burt Reynolds, and FOOTBALL, replaced hand egg ?

That's like remaking Bad News Bears into a movie about British kids getting snippy while drinking tea.

I'm not gonna argue with you, it was a shite movie. Although Statham had a good go at doing a psychotic, mass murdering goalkeeper.

It was a rather...rubbish idea for a movie. Strangely watchable though, in the same way that newsnight is watchable. You get nothing from it, but you still sit there with a glazed over expression.

'Tis the best sport evar.

also one of the simplest.
you need a ball (or something that moves when kicked), a max of 2 people and 2 arbitrary points to designate as goalposts--these are the minimum requirements to receive continued amusement.

there's a reason it's so popular in 3rd world countries and that's precisely BECAUSE you don't need money to purchase fancy equipment for it to be enjoaybl.

statistics don't lie

moar ppl in the world like what you call soccer--and what I usually call "futbol" (the "u" and "o" sounds are short, unlike how you pronounce it in english)

Ameriacan football is largely a North American game--back home I've met ppl that preferred basketball over futbol but no-one i've met outside of Canada or US would say that about American football.

The only reason so many people play soccer is why you said earlier, its so readily available and everyone can play.
