Guardian of the deadhouse

so, in bonehunters when Shadowthrone takes Kalam to the deadhouse, knocks then leaves a "huge" figure in armor answers the door and pulls Kalam inside. I thought it was an agreed consensus that that was Temper. He is the guardian of the deadhouse and bound to it. If this is true then doesnt it make it even more rediculous that he is out in the field defending Laseens rule. It is dumb to begin with because she tried to kill him and his beloved first sword. Who watches the deadhouse while he is away?
I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter at the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...."

The one that dragged Kalam in was, I believe, the massive creature (Jaghut?) that Temper battled with in Night of Knives. As further proof that this isn't Temper, Kell sees the man himself step out from Coop's before fleeing.

I think that the Azath in Malaz City has the Jaghut inside and Temper as a guardian to keep her inside. At least that is what it seems he is there for. So it seems that there is no one currently in Malaz that would take up Tempers position unless he can give it away without dying. Maybe Apsalar took up the cause

Some random Azath person, most likely the automatic armor guide, took care of Kalam. In that it let him in, then it left to slam on to the floor. That was it.

Every Azath has a big armored Jaghut in there huh....I could think of a lot better stuff...like real pretty Scillara's or Masan Gilani (that her name from the 14th?) No wonder no one understands the Azath! They dont even go for the best type of guardians.

I wonder if in BH, ST could have thrown Kalam off the Deadhouse's path and he'd get swallowed up, therefore entering the Azath's time-hole?

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Why? ST was saving Kalam's life by depositing him in the Deadhouse. As time works completely differently inside an Azath it would slow down/stop the spread of the paralt poison in Kalam's body. If he'd thrown him off the path it's bye bye Kalam.

Fair enough...but seeing as ST thinks he is the best at everything, maybe he reckoned he'd be able to make a deal.

A deal about what? Sorry mate, I'm not being argumentative for the sake of it, I'm just trying to see what your're getting at.

I think I understand what AIJ is getting at, obviously Cowl thought he knew that being captured by the roots off the path was not necessarily a death sentence. Kind of strange , Cowl and Kalam both now associated with the Malaz Deadhouse.
From NOK, I dont think it could be the same chick Jaghut Temper fights to keep in. She was captured by the roots and I doubt the Azath would let her surface again anytime soon.
I always assumed Shadow throne deposited Kalam in the deadhouse until he could find a super healer that could help him in the future. Or maybe the guardian could heal him. You remember in DHG there is, I think, a basin of water that heals in the deadhouse. I think Fiddler uses it to heal an injured ankle or something. I know the poisen is much worse than an injured ankle but who knows?

I think he certainly didn't want him dead, but in tBH (I think) we see that ST is a pretty impressive healer himself, as he heals some of the people defending the throne against iccy and the edur. Perhaps healing Kalam was beyond his skill, but he could also be playing a more subtle game - after all he's a devious bastard.

He also healed the 1300 cruxified children from DG.

So he could probably heal Kalam. Perhaps he's using Kalam as bait to trap Quick Ben?

I think he's up to no good. He's going to use him when the time is right. Gods like their pawns.

How did Raest end up in the Azath in GotM?

Yeah, but the difference is that Jhenna betrayed the Azath after she became guardian.

I don't think Temper is Guardian of Deadhouse or its grounds. I think he took over from the Nameless
One, Faro, to guard the gate from anything leaving the grounds during the Moon Convergence when
Souls arise from their bodies. He can sense anyone on the grounds - particularlly leaving.

agree, and when kalam went in and the door opened up, temper knew, so he suited up and took a sniff, liked what he smelled and went back into coops
