Quote

And then there's my very own favourite:

To his Coy Mistress

by Andrew Marvell

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges' side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.

But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.

Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

So people; if you're in love, or have been, or would like to be... What do you think says it best?

Haha. I like it.

That poem's all about convincing a girl there's no better time than right now to forsake her virtuousness/chastity and just get laid. If there was but world enough and time, I'd spend it wooing you. But...we ain't got that kind of time, darlin'. Give it up while the giving's good!

Cavalier poetry FTW!

It's the "Come On, Eileen" of poetry!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

How about some Earl of Rochester - for those men for whom the women are a nuisance (also, you like a da boys).

SONG

Love a woman? You're an ass!
'Tis a most insipid passion
To choose out for your happiness
The silliest part of God's creation

Let the porter and the groom
Things designed for dirty slaves
Drudge in fair Aurelia's womb
To get supplies for age and graves

Farewell, woman! I Intend
Henceforth every night to sit
With my lewd, well-natured friend
Drinking to engender wit

Then give me health, wealth, mirth, and wine,
And, if busy love entrenches,
There's a sweet. soft page of mine
Does the trick worth forty wenches.

Oh, dear....those Brits sure did love their boy-sex. :D

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I think Valentine's Day here (where I live) should be concentrated upon helping those victims of the bushfires.

But continue to loooooooooooooooove all you want. :D

That Earl of Rochester is a fine guy...

Here is my number,
Why don't you dial it?

Dear <insert love interest here> ,
I have been deceiving you, my sweet. We haven't just met, I've known you for years. I've followed you home and to the place you work. I once took your dog and was to give it back, but the fucker bit me, so I bit back. You may be wondering why your boyfriends keep leaving and never return your calls, but it might be my fault, if you're still interested in seeing them, I've enclosed a little map and x does indeed mark the spot. I thought I'd come clean and let you know that you are the only one for me. Come to the window I'm right outside and we can elope and leave this shit behind.

Yours forever

Being single doesn't mean that I'm not getting any action on a regular basis.

My friend and I are going with four or five girls to a strip club on Valentine's day. Boobies!
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

What have you people done to my lovely thread?!

Anyway, it's the thought that counts...

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Here since it seems in keeping with SM's (as in bdSM?) picture.

Why is it when you guys see the letters S and M together your minds immediately travel into the realms of Tops and Bottoms and Safe Words? It's like you're all obsessed...

So anyway.... Romance... It's not dead...

But it may wake up in a strange place with dishevelled clothing and no knowledge of the preceding 12 hours.

Methinks I smell a tragic love story here... Come on, Frook, tell Uncle AIJ what's the matter...

What can I say AIJ? You rumbled me, its an exact copy I sent to your mum...and then I had to leave Australia. It was for my own good.

Please Note! I am deeply respectful of AIJ's mum, but sometimes opportunities like this can't be missed. Cheers AIJ for understanding.
