Come on Saffers, don't be such a bunch of dradtt drekkers ;) ( sorry about the spelling, but i'm pretty sure the translation is "wire pullers" ?)

Anyhoo, just take your pick of the players who were on the Lions tour, chuck in a couple of Frenchies from that team that tonked you in the Autumn and maybe a few wildcard Scots and Italians. Brood is right, the Scottish are potentially the dark horses this year. Quick, mobile pack of forwards and finally some organisation in midfield ( Parks- tactician Godman- Flair) and some muscle on the wings. Some of the Italians individually are fantastic players, Sergio Parisse for example is arguably the best no 8 in the world and if memory serves was player of the tournament last year ? The Begamasco brothers usually perform well and the pack is almost a carbon copy of the Argentinian one in terms of bulk and style. They are shit in midfield though and the wingers usually need hypothermia treatment after the game.

Give it a go, you've got as much chance as anyone :)
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

I'm in - no points system, so I basically chose whoever played well in the B&I Lions tour :) Makes it a lot easier, normally the trick with fantsy leagues is knowing who the underrated players are since you can't afford a squad of superstars...

Edit - and it's draad trekkers, I hope whichever Saffer taught you the term explained it's meaning with much detail ;)

Nice one Alt.

In the spirit of friendship that was nurtured during the Lions tour, might I just say that i've never heard of one of your scottish backs.....just sayin.

Also for your info, the description of "draad trekking" that I was given by an old school friend, did not involve a practical demonstration ;)

@ Tapper, so the scrum half takes the kicks, right :)

Well, you try watching anything even remotely resembling rugby in the Netherlands. We have one national (student) division and nothing but local leagues, I think - it gets zero airtime, so I need to check the BBC, and as a result, know what is happening, but not the intricacies.
On the upside, we have field hockey. With wimmins.

Well I haven't been following much of the rugby season yet again so I have no idea who is good. I am fully prepared to be last again, with the slight possibility of beating TT...

EDIT: Did a lucky dip. Might chop and change a couple of players and then leave it! :)

I normally just keep an eye on the www.bbc.co.uk/sport website for information. There are most likely better ones. :p The Official RBS 6 Nations website is probably your best place to start. :)

What day of the week are squad announcements usually made on? The Super 14 announcements usually come out on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the match, I haven't seen anything about who will be playing this weekend.

Thanks, I was looking under the non-existent match previews or for news with more obvious titles. Still pretty late to be naming squads, I can really only see the one.

The site's little weekly newsletter is actually pretty good. The welsh hooker is injured, as is Chabal and a whole bunch of frenchmen and some other people. I still dont know the northern leagues nearly well enough to remember who is who, but I had to change a bunch of people in my team with the help of the squad lineups.

Phew !

I've been hiking up in Snowdonia for a few days, just got back and heard about a few late changes due to injury( one announced very late.....) that were seriously going to mess up my team, I thought you were not allowed to change your team within 24hrs of kick off but apparently that's not the case before the tournament starts.

Any predictions for the weekend ?

Wales v England is too close to call imo, I fear Wales will try to play like England and vice versa. Gonna be messy !

Ireland to hammer Italy scoring a bucketload of tries in the process.

France to pip Scotland in a very tight and fractious encounter
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

I was going to start a new thread but this is as good as any place. First two games have been pretty disappointing. Once again the 6 Nations looks well behind the Tri-nations in terms of intensity around the tackle area and the levels of skill and the running lines in the back division are just not up to the same standard either. Italy were beyon dreadful, if anything they have gone backwards over the last few years, I have very literally never seen such slow ball. The Irish I can't make my mind up about, I work with a load of Irsh people who have been very optimisitic since the Autum wins, but I'm not sure, I think their pack is a bit weak and without Ferris their pack really lacks dynamism. Healip is very good, but I don't think Wallace is half as influential as he's given credit for and O'Connell is incredibly one dimensional. The less said about the front row the better. Still out of all the home nations, that backline can look very threatning and BOD is still a genius.

There are few things I enjoy as much as beating the Welsh, it's probably the knowledge of quite how much it matters to them that makes it all the sweeter, not to mention the trash talking before hand. Might I add - fuck you Wales. However, I don't think you can gloss over how monumentally inept both sides were just cos of the score. I don't think the AWJ sin binning was as significant as it's being made out to be, but what a pillock anyway. I did think that if the Welsh can put together some phases and learn to pass more accurately their backs have some real penetration, just how easily England dealt with Roberts has to be a concern as he did nothing and Cooper is dreadful. Martin Williams is still brilliant though, but Powell is a bit dull.

England, hmmmm. You'd take the win obviously but really what did England do that was worth 30 points? Thier defence would have been cut to pieces if the Welsh could have passed and they make so many bad decisions leading to turnovers and penalties. Flood is abject at 12, too lightweight, Borthwick is a dull player and lacks dynamism and the props are in a word, shit. Dan Cole needs to come in. No idea what they see in Easter, but I'm not sure who would come in for him.
