Haven't met any trolls yet, but playing as Rohan, had to fight for my life when Sauron declared Jihad on my capital. The cavalry is still a bit overpowered, especially as I am Rohan....

How goes other people's attempts at Third Age? I played as Rohan due to my love of cavalry and have become rather exasperated at quite how many crusades are called are on my capital, but so far taken Isengard and spreading out slowly.

Somewhat slowly - I started as the Elder Elves, which start in the far west and in Rivendell. I've taken a few rebel towns and castles, have reached Moria and the misty mountains, and been battling Isengard
forces. Only problem so far was when one Orc army just stood there while I slaughtered them with arrows. Huge army, none of them moved, until they were decimated and I charged a load of cavalry at them to wake them up.
Wargs look good in battle, but seem slow and are fairly easily killed by infantry.
I've actually been playing more of 'Mount and Blade - Hundred Years War' instead. New Pc can handle tons more ragdolls, so enemy dead pile up in huge satisfying and
scarily realistic looking heaps, on castle ramparts and in stairwells. It's quite gruesome walking back through it all once the battle's over!

I haven't looked at Steam again since I evicted it from my hard drive along with Empire TW. So I don't know, I just download the mods straight from Taleworlds forum.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

you made me revisit Civ IV and... damn you. no other game can be as INFURIATING as Civilization. there's nothing quite like a single unit of Phalanx (no bonus vs cavalry, I might add - bonus vs infantry instead) holding off 6 of my Keshiks with almost no harm taken... it's. really. fucking. annoying. I need a new chair, keyboard and mouse I think, these got badly damaged today.
at the same time you can't stop playing.
damn this game.

I've been getting back into Civ4, and I got bored with the lower difficulties and I hate being arbitrarily penalized to increase difficulty, so I got Revolution DCM mod which really made empire managing more difficult, and the AI better. It primarily adds the tendency (a la Empire) for your cities to revolt if you aren't fixing their problems. A bunch of other integrated gameplay changes too. Super fun.

Anyone interested in this?

Although I like the era, I stopped playing Empire TW due to all the bugs, and the fact that despite patches, it was an unfinished, sprawling game.
I found the world map a bit too much, really - I really liked the naval battles, but there were no historical battles to play, and I ended up doing more trading than fighting.
Napoleon looks, well, different. Smaller map, better campaigns, turns are a few weeks rather than months, weather makes a lot of difference to travelling armies;
I'm still pissed about Empire, am I getting my hopes up?
It certainly looks good - and there's a lot of historical battles to replay, including all the biggies. I've got a feeling a lot of TW fans will wait until someone else has played it through before buying, though.

Pike & Musket. 1500s through late 1600s. Got the english civil war, ottoman invasion of europe & resultant smack down, 30 years war, colonialism, development of artillery as battlefield weapons, rather than ungodly massive siege-only machines, development of muskets as more than a 'hey look at me' weapon. and other stuff too.
Don't know why they didn't do this instead of Empire, cause the 1700s just aren't interesting in comparison.

that should be sick. That's the epoch Cossacks dealt with, and that game was immensse. Plus, with the completely broken down Germany, there should be a lot of fun options to choose from amongst German principalities..

I would love that as well. Although a Rome II would be so awesome. The first was brilliant, although it was too easily to absolutely dominate as Rome.
