Hi all, my first post here.

I have a question regarding the Gate of Darkness and Chaos. From reading the book, it appears that Chaos has been chasing the Gate of Darkness since the beginning of time. Draconus, by chaining the Gate to Dragnipur in order to 'hide'/'protect' it from Chaos, has almost resulted in Chaos reaching the Gate and the attendant dire consequences (unknown). Therefore, Anomander wanted to release the Gate from Dragnipur. All seems reasonable so far.

However, if the Gate is now anchored in Black Coral, what is there to keep Chaos from descending on Coral?? Shouldn't the Gate be left to wonder around instead??

Any thoughts?

Well, I'm not sure the gat of Darkness (well, one of the gates anyways) has been travelling all the time. I think the need for a gate of darkness to travel only rose when MD turned her back to her people. Now that she turned to face her people again probably Darkness is strong enough against to actually meet the fight with chaos head-first, as it was in the earlier beginnings?

Oh well, me not know.

Good question. It would be nice to know the sequance of events concerning MD and her gate, and why
Draconus "snared" MD. Why Rake waited so long to help his mom, but killed Draconus early on.
AND WHERE IN HELL IS EVERYONE NOW? A little info on Andarist tragedy would be nice, too.

Nothing is strong enough to face chaos face-to-face on a continual basis. In the beginning there was a migration, the pursuit followed a certain track. Never, before Rake & Hood entered Dragnipur had the Gate stopped to begin a confrontation.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Chaos doesn't actually chase the gate, it chases darkness itself. That is the natural cyckle. The warrens move about in the great abyss or where ever they exist and chaos follows after.

Why chaos was chasing the gate inside the wagon of dragnipur is a good question. As I'm thinking about it... was it actually specifically mentioned that the Gate was in the wagon and not the warren itself? A representation of it anyway?

The fact that the gate, one gate, is now located in Black Coral doesn't mean a thing.

iirc they mention it at least once in TtH that the Carriage is actually a gate to Darkness (Kurald Emuhrlain?). So I guess the Gate was indeed in the wagon.

Draconus said that he was wrong to think that only Darkness could oppose Chaos. Even if the one and only Gate of Darkness were in Black Coral, is not the Malaziworld yet another realm and manifestation of Order? So Chaos would have to get through whatever mundane defences the Malaziworld has to keep it together... or something...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Remember, Chaos is an alternate place. Not in the reality of Burn. So, it can't get through...

But could it get through the Rent at Morn?

It could, that is why it was sealed with the matron/Jaghuts.

There's also the example of RCG SPOILER:

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.
