This would seem to be the place to put this:
RIP Sarah Jane - Elizabeth Sladen has died.
She was only 63. Terribly sad
RIP Sarah Jane - Elizabeth Sladen has died.
She was only 63. Terribly sad
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. This is sad. Her Dr Who character was my favourite companion from the old series. Well, her and Romana. And K9. OK, we'll just say that she was among my favourite companions. I feel like the Spainish Inquisition talking about their chief weapon.
And is there any way to get this site not to tell me I've made a spelling error when using British English rather than American English? Or is this spell check thing built into my browser?? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........... It's annoying me anyway.

America is your rightful master, hence American English is your rightful tongue. The computer merely reminds you of this fact. So-called "British English" is just a terrorist plot to destroy freedom, and steal our precious bodily fluids.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I am so sad about Sladen. She was my first companion when I was a kid. It's suckified she died.

That was a suitably excellent series premiere!! Loved every drop of it. The cliffhanger is frustrating, but in a delicious way. LOL!

I've never seen an episode before, but I watched this premiere and thoroughly enjoyed it. So, I went and downloaded all of season 5 and I'm like halfway through it now. Yay.

Since you're enjoying season 5 and 6, definitely go back to the season one with Eccleston and Piper and watch it all the way through to the end of Tennant's tenure. It's well worth watching from the start, and each season has several BRILLIANT episodes.
I'd be interested to see what you think of Tennant's doctor after having watched Matt Smith first. Most people that I know think that Smith was a step down from Tennant. But I wonder how much of this is because Tennant played the doctor before Smith and for so long that still to many people he simply IS the doctor.
I'm jealous of everyone who's seen the season 6 premiere. It hasn't screened in NZ, and I have no idea when it's going to.
Still...

I'd be interested in hearing what a beginner would make of the previous Doctors if they started with Matt Smith as well.
I was surprised how much i liked him from the start, and actually find it hard to go back and watch Tennant now. But I think a large part of that is down to the direction and tone of the episodes rather than the actors. Cos Tennant was great in the Stephen Moffat episodes as well. He just got a bit over the top in the last season. But that's just my opinion.
Really looking forward to seeing Season6.

It took all of series 5 for me to do, but I can now easily separate Tennant and Smith as different incarnations that both have ups and downs. Tennant is still my fave...but Smith is so perfect at the role as well...just in a different way, that he is my second fave. I can now easily decide (if I am wanting to rewatch any, as I own it all on DVD up to and including series 5) whether I feel like Tennant eps, or Smith ones, and I am always happy with my choice. LOL

OK. So i gave in to temptation and watched the season opener. Damn you cliffhanger ending!!
Excellent start. Not too wild about the alien costumes but they could have been worse i suppose. The rest of it was really well done. Looks like it could be a great season.
I'll try and steer clear of spoilers for now.

By 'last season' do you mean the season of tv movies, or the Tennant's last 'proper' season? Pretty academic point but I'm intrigued.

Good point QB. I meant much of Season 5 AND parts of the movies as well. The more i think on it the more i feel it is just the writing of some of those episodes rather than Tennant himself.
But I do feel that the portrayal of Matt Smith's Doctor has been more consistent thus far, and he hasn't done anything to irritate me. Whereas I found Tennant's Doctor to be occasionally annoying in the later eps.
