I wish I could get back to 'meh'.

I liked ep 1. He did a good job of getting his sea legs. I didn't much care for the storyline but it was at least an average rating for me. The banter with an edge between Clara and the Doctor when they thought the other one had placed the add was good.

I very liked ep 2. The sarcasm laced one liners were great, plot was solid, other actors good. A slightly above average rating from me for that one.

This episode? I was going along with it just fine. The spoon was absurd in an amusing way. It all came crashing when he did the "Karate kid does booty dance shove". The Merry Men were absurdly stupid, which apparently infected the Doctor. By the dungeon bantering I was seriously considering switching to something better. Agents of Shield ep 3 or 4 maybe.

And 3 episodes of robots?

There was a lot of absurd plot stuff in this ep...not the least of which is that effing golden arrow...

I still enjoyed it, but man it's pretty laced with bad story choices.

On the bright side Clara is WAY better this season than she was last season.

Willing suspension of disbelief. You have to do a lot of willing to be able to enjoy Who in the first place. But that arrow ....

Coleman is damn good. I could see her making the leap to LA and movies.

Yeah, I'm no stranger to suspending my disbelief with this show. But the arrow....all that needed was a two sentence line of dialogue by the Doctor to explain why such a thing would work (techno-babble or whatever)...but they didn't sadly. Oh Mark Gatiss...

Yeah I'm not sure about this episode. Sure it had some good back and forth between the Doctor and Robin Hood but overall a bit bland. However, Jenna Coleman shone as always and I am enjoying Capaldi. It's enough to keep me interested but I am not looking forward to the next episode like I used to. Having said that, the next one looks pretty good!

Yes, I'm all for Capaldi.

It was never going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I think I'd got a bit bored with another youngish, whacky doctor with little moral struggle inside.

The 13th is the first NuWho Doctor to incarnate without the guilt of genocide on his shoulders - I think this has reset his morality somewhat and he needs to discover the meaning of "The Doctor" again. I love it.

Aaah, but I'm going to give this one to QT, because I do think of him as the 12th normally.

For some reason I had a flash of Capaldi saying "all 13" during the 50th special :D

I guess I need to rewatch it. Those are the parts I hated.

I think that was Tennants hand but he did say he spent a Regen on it correct.

Not to mention Smith saying something to the effect of "Ten regenerated and kept the same face. Vanity issues."

Specifically the bit in prison. The rest of it was nothing special.

Is anyone else already seeing Parallells between Missy's expected plan and what Davros did to the doctor in Stolen Earth/Journey's End?

Missy is creating scenarios to elicit a specific response from the doctor and "keeping" the results (in a very literal way) to presumably confront him some time later (season finale?) and make him reflect on his actions.
Davros created a scenario that elicited a specific response from the doctors companions tomake the doctor reflect on his actions and the effect he has on the people he meets.

Is there any other "application" for the people Missy is collecting? I can't think of anything.

I noticed everyone she keeps has sacrificed themselves for others.

I dunno if Moffat is going for that specific Davros-touted scheme...if only because it's been done before. The Doctor is now painfully aware that he usually turns his companions into weapons....it's why Eleven was SO much more protective of Amy & Rory doing things on their own, he wasn't about to turn them into the weapons that Rose, Martha, Mickey and Co. all became on his behalf. Twelve has absolved himself of that pain, but I don't know that he wouldn't see such a scam coming.

But yeah, Bubba is right, they have all either been sacrificed, or sacrificed themselves. So how that plays into things, we'll find out. It's probably going to tie into the whole "soldier" thing as well.

I just started re-watching Dr Who properly since the early Christopher Eccleston episodes. I stopped watching mainly because it was on at an inconvenient time on a Saturday when I was usually busy. I caught the occasional episode of the Tennant era but none of the Matt Smith era. I really want to like it as it used to be staple viewing for me and my sister in the 80s but I found the first two episodes of the new series boring. I enjoyed the Robin Hood one, mainly as a farce and because the bickering was funny. I will give it a couple more episodes. Don't you hate it when you really want to like something and can't quite manage it?

Go back and watch Series 2-7 Tennant and Smith. You will come around.

Capaldi's first two eps are not indicative of what makes people love the show and the character...meanwhile Tennant and Smith are.

Gods, really? Eccleston was my favourite of the NuWho Doctors, by a LARGE margin. Tennant was kind of an idiot, and Smith was just wacky. Fun to watch, but there was rarely ever any gravitas to their performances, whereas I really felt Eccleston's whole PTSD thing throughout his whole season.
