Wow. LOVED that! No complaints whatsoever.

Also, seeing Capaldi's face as Thirteen (yes Thirteen!)....so Capaldi IS the Valeyard.

Here's my guess about the future.

I noted most of those. ...but I will note that the Black Zone area at UNIT was the type of thing I'll have to pause to see all they hid on those shelves!

1's regeneration was in a lost missing ep, end of a Cybermen series.

2-7 were already on record.

8's regen occurred in the recent minisode.

We just saw the War Doctor begin to regen into 9.

10 is on record. So yeah, as of the 50th we have ALL the regens on record now.

2. With the Time Lords return, and as a gift for stopping the madness and restoring things to status quo, the Time Lords (hopefully led by Romana III and not Rassilon...I'm kind of hoping he was iced) will biologically gift the Doctor with 12 more lives...as they did with the Master in the 20th Ann. special THE FIVE DOCTORS.

EXCEPT THEY DIDN'T :D Borusa was going to, but then being dead got in the way of it.

Quote

HOWEVER - since the Doctor 'Time-locked' Gallifrey et al, how could he do that unless he had the original, rather than a copy/link?

No, it's a link. If it was the original he wouldn't need to park the TARDIS on the rift in Cardiff to refuel. My guess is that the link exists, but the other end doesn't work, because it's beyond the time lock on the Time War. So you can see it (like in Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS) but you can't use it.

So I'm watching some specials that BBC America is playing and I hear from 1 lady that she played Susan, the Drs grand daughter. What's up with that?

The Doctor had children and at least one grandchild. We know pretty much nothing about them.

Quote

But what happened to Susan? She alive or dead?

She's living on Earth exactly 200 years in the future. The Doctor left her in 2164, so if she showed up again it'd be 2213. As a Gallifreyan but apparently not a Time Lord, she ages at more or less the same rate as humans.

the Gallifreyan capital city of Arcadia

It's the second city. The capital is, somewhat unimaginatively, called the Capitol :(

Not quite. We still haven't seen the Second Doctor's 'proper' regeneration into the Third, and given both actors are dead it's highly unlikely we ever will. That gap is where Season 6B (which is now regarded as canon) comes from.

He got them nonetheless. Otherwise we'd have seen no more Master after the 20th Anniversary. Sure he stole Tremas' body ect. The sheetah virus, all that jazz...but there is no definitive canonistic reason for the Master to have gotten another set of Regenerations. Until then, we speculate.

Actually, We know plenty about his great-grandson Alex. Big Finish Eighth Doctor Audio's are your friends Wert. :(

No, she's living on earth in the 20th Century as of the actual last time we saw her (TO THE DEATH audio). This after helping the Eighth Doctor defeat the Daleks SECOND attempt at an invasion of earth. Yes, it's an audio, but Big Finish is canon, and now the Eighth Doctor stories and companions are canon (as of THE NIGHT OF THE DOCTOR) according to the TV show.

Technically they are BOTH capitals. One just happens to house the Time Lord Citadel, and is therefore considered "more important". Arcadia housed the War room in TdotD and was the center of military ops it would appear. That's Preeeeety important methinks.

Whether you like it or not Wert, this IS Two's regen scene.

You can fanboy-argue that it differs from the existing Regens in some way (in fact they all kind of differ till Eight regens) or that it's not his regen...but the above clip IS his regeneration. The next time we see him is SPEARHEAD IN SPACE lying in a hospital bed. We don't need to see his face change to Pertwee's to know that's what was happening in the above clip.

He got them during the Time War when he was in his Eric Roberts body, yes :( Not during the Ainley years. When we last saw Ainley (in Survival) he was still stuck in the Tremas body.

True. The Big Finish audios are now apparently canon (or, more likely, semicanon in the same way the NEW ADVENTURES novels are), so we have to go with that.

Quote

Nope. We see the Doctor heading off into the darkness and we later see the Third Doctor emerge on Earth. What happens inbetween was not specified at the time on-screen. However, almost immediately the contemporary comics had the regeneration being interrupted and the Doctor sent to Earth for seven months of further adventures before transforming into Pertwee.

What we know now happened from a TV POV is that the Time Lords halted the Doctor's regeneration and employed him as a covert agent with deniability. Initially in this period he travelled alone and visited the Brigadier on Earth (where he got caught up in the events of THE FIVE DOCTORS). Later on the Time Lords allowed him to re-recruit Jamie and Victoria. It was during this period, when Victoria was at college, that the Second Doctor and Jamie met the Sixth and Peri (THE TWO DOCTORS - Jamie refers to the events of THE WAR GAMES which is impossible if that was really his last appearance). It is also accepted that his appearance in THE THREE DOCTORS comes from this period as well.

The 'Season 6B' thing started life as fanwank but got the official seal of approval from Terrance Dicks (who script-edited Troughton's last season and most of Pertwee's run) when he wrote several novels set there. Unexpectedly, the BBC officially canonised it by putting it on their website:

Quote

Rather than undergoing the regeneration shown starting at the end of The War Games, the Second Doctor was recruited to work for the Celestial Intervention Agency, a clandestine Time Lord organisation shown to exist in TV: The Deadly Assassin. During this time, the Second Doctor regained Jamie and Victoria as companions, acquired a Stattenheim remote control device to summon his TARDIS and undertook an unknown number of missions, including that depicted in The Two Doctors. Eventually, the Doctor's association with the CIA ended for reasons not known and his full War Games sentence was executed at the beginning of Spearhead from Space.

Also, the Big Finish audio drama Helicon Prime takes place during Season 6B, and since the Big Finish audio dramas are now canon... :D

Drifting through the internet reading reviews, and comments on reviews,

i'm reminded about the old adage:

"How do you make a Dr Who fan unhappy?

Make them watch Dr Who"

Quite a lot of negativity flowing around.

I wasn't blown away.

The scenes with Tennant and Smith were nice, but I just don't get why they spend so much time coming up with a story involving Gallifrey and the Doctors hardest choice, and try to marry it to a sort of unconvincing, surreal comedy scene involving Elizabeth 1st.

I mean, why have time travel into the past and then just not bother to even attempt to make it even a little bit more... real? (Or believable, maybe I should say. )

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Oh come on. I can see some of the criticisms of it but this is Doctor Who, the least realistic show in the history of anything. Why would they suddenly change for the 50th?

Yeah, I know. Just seems weird that they take some bits so seriously, like all the lore that is usually getting discussed here, so I watch it and it's just all just become a parody of itself.

Just expected something more, I guess.
