Saw it Saturday and it rocks...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about getting to see it tonight in 3D as well!

Hell, those paintings alone are simply going to look badass in 3D!

Great episode. Especially loved the cameo by Tom Baker.

Well, I really enjoyed it, though one could have wished for a little more John Hurt and Time War. That would've blown the budget tho.

I am still a bit confused as to how John Hurt fits into the past lives. They never addressed it. Is he an older Eight or an entirely different Doctor? The climax of the episode seems to suggest the latter, but in Hurt's regeneration scene I swear I saw Christopher Eccelston's face, which suggests the former. Anybody have a definitive answer on this?

BTW if you didn't see this in 3D, you missed a hilarious pre-show scene with Matt Smith and David Tennant regarding putting on the 3D glasses. There was also a great pre-show bit featuring Strax the Sontaran, which I assume was in the 2D version also.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

McLovin, you haven't seen Night of the Doctor then, the seven minute prequel bit? QuickTidal embedded it nearish the top of page 49. Should help.

I see. So even though he's a regen, he doesn't "count" as one thanks to how it was done.

Acording to Moffat it's like this:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, War Doctor, 9, 10, 11

BUT

Moffat says we also have to count Ten's Almost Regen in JOURNEY'S END where he fuels excess the energy off into his severed hand so his face won't change.

So although Matt Smith is called (by us) the Eleventh Doctor...he is on his 13th and final regenerated life.

So come Christmas ep (called THE TIME OF THE DOCTOR...rounding out the trilogy about him) the expectation is that Peter Capaldi is the Valeyard...who (see Sixth doctor season called The Trial Of A Timelord) was an future version of the Doctor between his Thirteenth and final form. At any rate, Eleven will have to deal with the regeneration limit in about a month's time.

But aside form all else, Moffat was careful to name Hurt The War Doctor...so the numbering naming we are all used to (and the merchandise is labelled) can stay the same.

So Matt Smith. Eleventh Doctor. Thirteenth life.

This is why I asked if all the regens were on screen and afterwards I youtubed it and they showed 4 turning into 5...so I'm confused by his appearance in this one.

He explains it in the special. He's basically a future version of the Doctor who has since retired to be the curator, and been able to "choose" an "old favourite" face from his past to grow old into. It's the Doctor RE-using Four's face.

What's that behind the TARDISes?

Posted Image

Looks familiar.

13 instances of the same TARDIS gathering together to lift Gallifrey out of the space/time continuum in a massive paradox? Yeah, that might fracture space and time and cause the TARDIS to explode (retrospectively, because of timey wimey Moffabollocks). Interesting to see how this ties in with the set-up for the Christmas special.

I agree that this is the viewers' interpretation, but oddly it doesn't seem to be the Eleventh's. In fact, the Eleventh's reactions are off at the end of the 50th special:

Yeah, it was well established that The events of TDotD involving the multiple instances of the Doctor are kind of a "recall it as it happens" only. The only fix to that after the fact is that Eleven's timeline comes out of the end of it...so he gets to remember it. Thus he also remembers the Curator.

but what i took out of it is that only the 'current' (ie latest) doctor is able to remember it properly.

Therefore, the Curator will remember the meeting. But 11 will maybe only remember looking at the painting, and not much else.

Ah. Yes, that would indeed make sense.

I don't tell anyone they're wrong.

Is that what you people think of me?

I got my sister that teapot for Christmas last year.

I shall have to get her the tea-strainer too...
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.
