I didn't like Rory initially but now I like him far more than Amy as a character. He's almost as awesome as Bernard Cribbins.

Yeah, I am also a MUCH bigger fan of Rory than I am of Amy and initially I was the other way round...and good analogy PG, Bernard Cribbins was AWESOME. I loved him, especially in Tennant's farewell.

Really? I agree to an extent on most of your issues with season 6, but I thought that episode was very good, if a bit rushed.

Fair enough, really. I agree with the general premise and it's the problem with the whole season. He's suffering from Grant Morrison syndrome, trying to stuff in all his good ideas at once instead of letting them breathe.

I really do hope that the next season's supposed less long-arc nature gets him his mojo back in terms of building whole stories round an idea instead of half a scene.

Indeed, that's why I am liking hearing that Series 7 will be more standalone eps (which are the Moff's best work), and the only overarcing plot will be the new companion's backstory and whatever will lead us to the 50th Anniversary (hopefully multiple Doctors), The Fields Of Trenzalore and the question that must be asked. If the Moff is truly going to find his balance, I feel it will be in Series 7. I still have faith in him.

starting to get impatient for series 7! Though I have a GREAT crackpot theory that I'd like a couple people's opinions on.

First official image of 11th Doctor Matt Smith with new companion played by Jenna Louise Coleman (tentatively named Clara).

Note Smith's outfit. If we are changing up the Doctor's wardrobe, I can approve of this. :p

I don't think we need spoilers for this. My note on your theory that probably blows it out of the water is that every incarnation has shown that the Doctor can only be around himself (crossing his own timeline) in close quarters for limited time (See TIME CRASH....paradox), and while it has been achieved in the past for brief periods and in special circumstances (THE FIVE DOCTORS) the chances of a paradox occurring would limit the Doctor being able to travel with a companion that was his future self. So I don't think it's really possible...

HOWEVER...

I don't think it's out of the question for Clara to be a Time Lord of some description, and possibly even a post-John Simm incarnation of The Master (whom we could now believe to be free of the "drums" placed in his head as a youth that drove him crazy making him evil) and might be good again and friends with the Doctor again (as they were in their youths on Gallifrey before the Master went bad). She could be an incarnation of The Rani (female Time Lord), and in my head she could even be a Thal or a Kaled (the human-like race that once inhabited Skaro before Davros [who was a Thal] mutated them into the Daleks) prior to those events.

My brain also wants to not forget Georgia Moffet's Jenny character (THE DOCTOR'S DAUGHTER, Series 4) being alive and technically able to regenerate at the end of her episode...or at least rejuvenated and off in her own starship...we could see it be an incarnation of her since it would be a really lovely way to dovetail the 50th Anniversary with the Doctor travelling with what is essentially his daughter (when the 1st Doctor in 1963 traveled with his granddaughter).

My two cents.

So where's the foreshadowing that Matt Smith will leave at the end of this season? Must have passed me by. I mean clearly his ending is already planned, 'fall of the 11th' and all that, but has there been any indication that that's this season rather than next?

Thought on the new companion: maybe she's Romana.

The Fall of the 11th Is the foreshadowing...coupled with Matt Smith being evasive in interviews about how long he's staying as the Doctor.

Romana has already been ruled out by the Moff.

Susan then? Or as you suggested, regeneration of Jenny?

also, fairly sure this is on this thread somewhere already, but deserves a repost:

Okay, so there is a new DW toy called the "Trans Temporal Sonic Screwdriver" at Forbidden Planet and ...it comes with a description...

"With the TARDIS trapped on Earth in a Trans-temporal schism, the Doctor find himself at the centre of four time zones. As with each previous time the TARDIS generates a new sonic screwdriver for the Doctor but this time it is created in the style of each time zone, Elizabethan, Victorian, Present Day and Future London. With additional features including a ‘wood’ setting, the Doctor must try and free the TARDIS before time runs out."

Is this a synopsis of events that the Doctor will go through in Series 7? Or just a toy idea?

Food for thought.

If its a tie-in its implying a pretty tight series-long arc.....

I thought Moffat had stated there'd be more stand alone stuff this time?

Yeah he did say that, but I don't think that such a statement includes the 50th Anniversary special(s), which leads me to believe this MAY be a part of that. On the other hand it could just be a toy.

The premiere of the first ep (ASYLUM OF THE DALEKS) (the one attended by stars ect.) is set for August 14th, and the actual airing on the Beeb seems to be set for around Aug. 24th...but I wonder how much of it will leak form the 14th screening....

At any rate a new trailer is set to air this Thursday. I'll post it here when I find it.

If this actually turns out to be true it will be pretty epic It's still a genius idea though.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.
