That was pretty cool, but I'm annoyed now that we have to wait so long for the next episode. It is impressive the amount of foreshadowing going on in Stephen Moffat's doctor Who. I did find the "big reveal" to be a bit anti-climactic as it was a theory i have had for a while, but it does leave us with plenty of scope for an awesome second half to the season.

And I still want to know what River Song did to end up in the Stormcage.

I suppose the Torchwood mini-series will have to do in the meantime. Since "Children of Earth" was really good, I'm hopeful, but the co-production with an American network makes me nervous. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I also found the big "reveal" to be anti-climactic....as that's a theory I've been batting around for a week or so. Blerg. We also don't get to find out the REST till the effing fall!

Oh well, great episode otherwise. -_-

That was a good episode! Lots of exciting action, fantastic set pieces, a wonderful cameo from an old enemy, a creepy new enemy, a couple of well done twists, and some great new characters. The big reveal was well handled and emotional, if unsurprising. The only complaint I have is that the episode could have done with more story. With so much awesome in other departments though, that wasn't a huge issue. Oh, and I really did not need a reprisal of those silly space-faring spitfires, limited as their air time was.

The title for the next episode has me intrigued. Should be fun if nothing else!

Some thoughts on season 6's first half:

Best Episode: The Doctor's Wife

Best Enemy: tied: House and the Silents

Best new ally: The Silurian 'detective'

Funniest new character: Uncle. So much hilarity from a minor character. Almost all his lines were laugh worthy and the actor did
a great job.
"I wish I could go in your place Idris. Nah, I don't. 'Cause it's really gonna hurt!"
"Oh. She dead now? So sad."
Honourable mention: The Sontaran nurse

Worst Episode: The Curse of the Black Spot

Biggest Disappointment: The Rebel Flesh duology. Not bad couple of episodes by any means, just not as good as I'd hoped. The flesh was an intriguing concept which really had me excited, so I was hoping for more than the fairly by the numbers story the episodes delivered.

I-didn't-need-to-see-you-again: Those damn spitfires

I-should-have-seen-that-coming-but-didn't: Amy's flesh baby

Creepiest part: Amy trapped with the Silents.

Weird at the time but now makes sense: Amy randomly informing the doctor of her pregnancy during a dangerous and urgent
situation.
What's up with the peep hole lady?

@Binder
I'm wondering if she ended up in the Stormcage for killing the doctor in The Impossible Astronaut, assuming that was River in the suit. Although IIRC when the doctor took them down to the beach, she didn't seem to know what was coming. Ah, it's all pretty confusing. Any theories?

So I was roundly mocked for even bringing the Tennant & Davison thing UP at the Gallifrey Base forums...apparently because it can be modified by anyone IMDB is not to be trusted at all ever...

Or at least according to some of the more nasty trollish folk over at those forums.

I dunno, it'd be neat and a big surprise for them to be in it...but I guess grain of salt it likely won't happen.

Sigh.

Now, referring back to this, we had River's response when Rory asked "are there two Doctors out there?"

something along the lines of "once on a special occassion" was the responce IIRC......

Good ep, as usual my theories turn out to be totally wrong.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Actually;

Rory "I've come from the Doctor too"
River "Yes, but at a different point in time"
Rory "Unless there's two of them"
River "<makes a noise> That's a whole different birthday"

Having just caught up on the last 3 episodes in one go (yes, I've been away lots at weekends) I'd have to say I'm really enjoying this series but why why why a break between the two halves? I'm going to have to watch the whole lot again before it restarts!

Melody on the side of the first crib did half-twig as to River however wasn't sure.

How many times do we need to have characters from before coming back? Why not have some of the *really* old ones come back too?

Other than wondering if the Doctor can destroy an entire Cyberman fleet why he feels the need to bring in others, not bad at all.

One thing I didn't get. How did the Doctor rise so much higher than ever before, then fall so much further? Did he rise higher because he managed to defeat a bunch of soldiers without bloodshed, and prevent the enemy fleet from getting involved? The trouble is the Doctor pulls off impressive feats on a weekly basis, so that didn't seem particularly stupendous. What about The Doctor Dances, when "everybody lives"? Or when he singly handedly ended the time war, or prevented the Timelords' return, or ensured the restoration of the entire universe at the end of season 5?

He didn't seem to fall very far at all. 10 did worse when he went nuts in Waters of Mars if the fall is a descent to darkness, or when trapped by the Master if the fall is utter defeat. Unless 11's 'fall' is still to come?

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it annoyed me.

The theory is that his infiltration and subsequent rescue of amy and flesh melody is how he rose so high...and the fall is that he was tricked the whole time. According to the folk at the Gallifrey Forums anyways.

My theory is we haven't seen the "fall" yet....but who knows.

I also didn't find the "rise higher" to be all that "high" either and I think something like having Martha travel the planet building up his name while he is withered by the Master only to rise up and defeat him in the end from word of mouth VIA a year in the life of Martha to be WAY higher of a rise...but whatever I guess.

I would go with that the fall is yet to come.

I hope we haven't seen the fall yet. I was expecting something truly devastating. That was just... meh.

The only case for 'rising higher' that I can see was that the rescue went supremely smoothly (so the Doctor thought), and was managed without any bloodshed. But, yup, coming back from being a withered gnome thing in a cage to defeat the Master with the psychic support of humanity tops it. And as much as it's totally worthy, the rescue of one companion and a baby isn't the most incredible result the doctor has ever achieved, either.

Oh well, at least the 'Rise higher' quote made for a great line in the series 6 trailer.

I should really visit the Gallifrey Forums.

Edit: Is it Gallifrey base? You have to register to even browse there. What a pain in the ass. Well, I'm registering.

Edit2: Now I can't view the forums because my account hasn't been 'approved', which may take up to a few days. Great. Grumble grumble.

Yeah and once you're in some of them can be SUPER douchy....even the people who run the place...but you can get some decent info and insight from there so it's mostly worth it.

thinking about it, i'd say the whole rise higher and fall further thing applies better to Amy than the Doctor.

She was kidnapped, with her child taken from her.

From that point she was rescued and reunited with the child - the rise.

Only for that child to turn out to be a fake - the fall.
