Who is the Wolves's mortal sword?

Just finnished reading tBH and noticed that the Perish seem to be similar to the Grey Swords from MoI except they are devoted to Togg & Fandarey. Now they have a Shield anvil, destriant and mortal sword, but didn't Toc the Younger becong the wolves's mortal sword in MoI? Or did I just get confused somewhere?

I brought this up myself back in my early days
the general consensus is that because there are two Wolves, they can have two Mortal Swords. Toc is Togg's Mortal Sword, and the Grey Helm's one is that of Fanderbender.

Absolutely no problem, Lisheo brought this up a long time ago and we're here to discuss things even if they have been inevitably mentioned before. The thing is not everyone will have heard it and some degree of repetition is certainly acceptable

Note that there are two holders of each title, always one male and one female.
The Grey Swords had Toc as Mortal Sword, and the unnamed female officers as Destriant and Shield Anvil.
The Perish had the female Mortal Sword, and the other two were men (sorry, can't remember their names).
This jibes nicely with the Wolves ruling jointly as a male-female pair.

Would've made more sense if one of the three in each army was actually a hermaphrodite

Can someone tell me if the roles of Mortal Sword, Destriant and Shield Anvil are 'jobs for life' or is the role only given when actually required? If there is no wars for them to fight, are the roles filled?

There's always wars.

Yeh i know, the Malazan Book of the Fallen would be pretty boring if everyone got along
The reason i ask is cos i'm sure i read somewhere in MoI that the role of 'mortal sword' for example had been empty for hundreds of years prior to the Grey Swords current one

They just didnt know about the mortal sword, I suspect. Bear in mind that Wu isn't the only planets with possible human candidates...

Hate to rock your boats but there's also the Enka'ral from HoC which takes over the body of a 15-foot Toblakai warrior and becomes a champion of the Wolves.
But who's to say you can't have more than one champion, or even more than one Mortal Sword?

I've wondered what happened to the Enka'ral/Toblakai dude. You'd think he/it would have made some noice by now.
Actually,

The Enkaral-Toblakai became Champion of the Beast Hold, not Champion of the Wolves of Winter.
These are not the same thing.
it's the same difference between being the Mortal Sword of a god, and Knight of a High House.

I suspect the Enkaral guy is actually one of ICE's plots. SE suggested he is finished with 7C. Its entirely possible that Mr Enkaral Champion will show up in the final convergence, but that would be a little random, methinks.

Does the Beast Hold still exist? I thought that when the Wolves of Winter took the throne, the Hold was transformed into High House War.

I'm not sure about High House War replacing the Beast Hold. Even the existence of HH Ware seemed a bit hazy.
Even if that was true though, the distinction would still stand. The Enkaralakai would be a member of the High House, which is different from being an instrument of a god.
