Me no likey Guinness, unless there is a shot inside it.

Le sigh... I haven't been able to go to Europe

Well, that explains it. American Guinness sucks!

Why can't Europe be closer? Like Ohio or even Pennsylvania! Stupid planet.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Well, I'm Irish and in Dublin right now, so let me say one thing- if you like grey skies, over-priced booze, and Irish people with funny accents, Dublin is the place for you.

That sounds like fun! :(

um... I'm afraid I have sinned already... not with beer, but that wine was smiling at me sooooo sweetly - I just couldn't resist... :D

So, thank you all for your recommendations, I have narrowed my choice to following:

1) Edinburgh
2) Berlin
3) Sofia
4) Lyon

Now I just have to pray that

A. there are still some last-minute tickets available and all halfway decent hotels are not fully booked;
B. my poodles don't get birdflu or plague or allergic reactions to this cheap make-up brand they've discovered recently;
C. situation in Greece doesn't explode, because in that case I might end up in Athens (on business and not for pleasure) and I really, really don't want that...
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

Head south. Anywhere it's warmer and sunnier than where you are.

I realize this may necessitate a trip to Yemen but there you go. You have a long weekend to work with and you live in Europe. Having a nicer tan than everyone else is your only revenge.

- Abyss, notes southern parts of Spain or Greece may remove need to go to Yemen

:p

Nah... It was all set for Berlin - made appointments with friends, booked a hotel, just had to get the last-minute tickets... and then that stoopid phonecall came last Monday, killing my vacation and my will to socialize and my will to live generally... :p I'll have to wait until end of January to get away again, and then it will probably be either Berlin or Sofia. Edinburgh, which I'm really eager to see, will have to wait for warmer seasons...

But glad to hear that everything worked out fine in the end and that you finally made it over the ocean. :p And who needs TV when you have us to entertain you? ;)

I haven't had one in a decade. I don't miss it all that much. :p

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN

THAT BURGER LOOKS DELICIOUS
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
