Since I am totally bias towards Itkovian, and have yet to read Return of the Crimson Guard (dam me buying useless things), I am feeling the Grey Swords. This is prior to siege of Capustan. Also I apologize about not elaborating on the fight's circumstance, I just wanted to put the question out there, leave it to your imagination.

Hmm? Is this a spoiler thread? Are we allowed to include info from Return of the Crimsom Guard and RG? I'll try and leave this as spoiler free as possible.
The Guard would destroy the Grey Swords if we're going by their performance in Capustan. The Grey Helms might be a different matter.
From what I could tell in MoI, the Swords don't use mages, which is just plain weird. They also didn't count more than, say 10.000 soldiers I think. Their true power lying in their champions and, if there are any, priests. Fener is gone, so the priests were useless. Meaning the have little defence against mages.
The Guard have a lot of combat and assassin mages. Meaning Karnadas and Itkovian would have been taken down early. Then the mages would destroy what ever fortifications or trenches the Sword owned. The Guardsmen number around fifty thousand, and they are elite both in tactics and skill. Their numbers would decide the battle, if dozens of mages laying waste to the Swords weren't enough. Finally you have the Avowed who are each worth a hundred men. They would carve through the Swords like a knife through butter.

I can't remember where I read it - I havent read the series in quite a while - But I seem to remember someone saying the Grey Swords were a simple mercenary unit, not in the same league as the Crimson Guard. I could be wrong, or maybe I just made that up. I haven't read RofCG, but I know a thing or two about Iron Bars. Him double hard. Wouldn't bet a single Grey Sword against him.

Then again, someone in TtH said that he didn't believe Capustan could have been held as well by the Guard. That being said, I don't think he means the entire 50k Guard, just an equal proportion. An interesting opinion. Personally, I don't think the Grey Swords would stand a chance, but I think the Grey Helms perhaps would beat the CG...

Ah yes, you all make extremely good points, and I forgot to take the Grey Helms into account..maybe another poll for another day.

The Guard would, going by their performances in GotM and MT, beat the GS.
And hell, going by their performance in RotCG, they would actually crush the Grey Swords.
The Helms might stand a chane. Might.
