60% done according to my Kindle: So fucking Shanna died, or at least was cut up into pieces. Dafuq? Also, I THINK Kris/Deliann died, though I was foggy on that passage. Raithe seems to delight in fucking torturing Caine. Speaking of...Caine is still crippled and his legs don't fucking work. Keriandalle has gone from bitch, to nice, to uber-bitch again. Kollberg is actually running the show on the Studio/Earth side. Tan'elkoth seems to still be on the bad side, though I get an inkling he doesn't particularly like it over there, and he's been put through the ringer now as well. Ankhana and Overworld are starting to truly suffer from the plague. Fuck me. Can this get worse for the characters? Am I past the bleakness yet? Gods, this is dark.

Best stuff so far in the last section. Caine telling Raithe that "reasons are for peasants"...I fucking LOVED that. Also, Caine's crazy rescue of Tan'Elkoth from the burning Curioseum was damned fun to read.

It causes a few more mirrors to shatter later on. Anyhow, no, you're not through the bleak prison shower arse-rape reduction of semen + shit that is being poured out over everyone yet. Like Abyss says, keep reading.

It's funny how BoT prompts a similar response in most readers (who can actually finish it) ...that middle section, which is most of the book, is DARK. Characters who chewed up scenery in HD are utterly shattered... it's like THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in a sense... the good guys are losing and losing and losing some more. Without the manic fun that was HD, BoT wouldn't work at all because there would be no reason to expect anything to turn around.

But the pay-off is awesome. Plus, no Ewoks.

Finished BoT tonight. Well that stayed bleak for a long long time! Fuck me they go through the ringer, and the Pit stuff was rough. That said, the ending was totally fucking excellent. I dig the results for everyone involved. I loved Caine's last Neo-Matrix-esque speech to the Studio. That book was fucking BRUTAL...and almost too densely philosophical...but it was also fucking amazing!

Anyways, will be moving onto CAINE BLACK KNIFE soon. It will be really cool to see Obrek's home tribe ect.
