I see they finally clarified just what it's supposed to be.

The rewards for bid levels are pretty funny actually. nice to see they've already exceeded the first bid goal - that's fandom right there.

And i like this...

You can easily get HEROES DIE from amazon. CAINE BLACK KNIFE too.

BLADE OF TYSHALLE is a little more complicated, but here's a link to an entirely affordable e-book version you can buy, so you have no (fucking) excuse! http://www.randomhou...?authorid=30059

There - BLADE problem solved, none of you have any excuse any longer! fuck!

Seen the other 2 on Amazon aye, but god damn you Blade of Tyshalle...

It will bug the hell out of my OCD if I do it that way though and have BoT as an e-book...

But sacrifices shall have to be made...

Thanks!

I'm always keeping an eye out for copies of BoT at Half Price Books. (I found 3 of 'em this past year.) When I find one again, I'll announce it in this thread.

A brief update on HFF. Really, dudes and ladies need to get over to the OverWorld forums anyway:

MWStover said:

I don’t have a release date yet. The draft I delivered back in October was exceedingly rough; I’ve managed to clean it up considerably since then, but I’ve not yet heard from Caine’s editor on the clean(er) version.

I have to warn everybody here — when I wrote HFF, it was the end of my relationship with Caine. This comic book was only a notion that seemed unlikely to ever come to pass.

At the time, there was no reason to think that HFF would beat the anemic numbers for the series so far, so I wrote it entirely to please myself — with literally no commercial considerations. It was the last work of fiction I thought I would ever devote to this guy I’ve been writing about for more than thirty years . . . so it’s not what you think it’s gonna be.

Hell, it’s not what I thought it was gonna be.

Just as people who expected Blade of Tyshalle to be a lot like Heroes Die were a bit bewildered and disappointed, those who expect HFF to be a lot like CBK will be similarly bewildered and potentially disappointed.

It’s not What Happens Next. It’s the Rest of the Story.

And it is the least Caine-like of all the Caine stories.

Ever, in fact, because the Caine you meet in the comic is gonna be . . . well, let me put it this way.

Think of Caine in the novels as being analogous to Will Munny, the character Clint Eastwood created for his masterpiece Unforgiven.

Caine in the comics is gonna be more like the Man With No Name.

Have joined Overworld but not really perused much yet , tho i did see the above and am accordingly psyched. Stover's at his best when not writing to expectations.

We NEED a street date for this book SO BAD.

re Overworld quite amazing - they set out to eventually raise $8500 and beat that in three days. That's really saying a lot about the level of love fans have for the coCaine.

I can't quite decide if a comic will work better than text but i'm looking fwd to finding out.

Yeah, I'm not really amped for a comic book version (though I'm warming to it) but anything that increases Caine's exposure and ups the chances that someone will pay Matt to write more Caine novels gets my full support.

The thing is, so much of what makes Caine glorious is the narration, his inner monologue of fuck-you-universe. In comics this would be impossible to 'show' which means resorting to either massive caption boxes, thought balloons, or skipping it, and that's where i get minorly worried.

That said, if they accept that what works in text won't work in graphic, and just produce an awesome adaptation with glorious art, this could work like fuck.

This is what Stover was referring to with his "Man With No Name" analogy.

Ever see Once Upon A Time in the West or one of the early Clint Eastwood westerns? Harmonica and the Man With No Name are pretty widely considered enormous badasses, despite no obvious thought processes.

I do share your concerns about this, as what makes Harmonica and MWNN so awesome is their slouches, non-reactions and cool physical movements, which can't quite be portrayed all that well in comic format. Most of the people who do Wolverine in comics screw this up. Although, Stover is probably talented enough to figure it out within a few issues.

Agreed. Millar and Romita Jr. were the only ones I ever saw did a decent job of it in the Marvel Knights series they did with him, but for the most part you are right, they don't get it right.

Maybe i misunderstood but i don't think Stover is writing it. It's just his source material and active support.

Way back when, there was a Wolverine and Spiderman one shot that everyone ever should read if they can. It involved Berlin, KGB sleeper agents, spies and all kinds of good stuff. At one point, in an absolutely brilliant bit of comics narrative, Ann Nocenti has Wolverine explain his smile. It's the 'i can kill you any time i want' smile and a bit later Wolvie uses it to make some killers back off.

It's a very Caine'esque bit of narrative and one way in which that sort of psychological element can be used in comics to great effect.

But too many comics people just go with the popping claws and snarling, and that (equivalent) won't work with Caine, who isn't even all that visually intimidating until he starts killing people. A lot.

You misunderstood. It's not a fan project; Stover is doing the writing. That's why he's pushing this so hard; before he became a novelist, he wanted to write for comics. Now he gets to write fucking comics about fucking Caine. He's not adapting the novels; he's basically retelling Caine's story in comic format.
