He can't save people who are already captured. he may save against capture...
Anyway, I've got nothing to lose and all to gain. I have no victory condition now, I may have one tomorrow, and since you guys need me to win sometime (unless you lynch me), so I'll get one, sometime. It might be a winning or a losing one, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.
As it stands, I think a victory by Ruse, Serc and Telas would be a victory for the underdog, and I like long odds

Actually, no. Peter saves against the recruitment attempt.

Sylar kills X. Peter saves him. X lives.

If Peter would save after the act instead of to the trigger, X would die.

This is a very simple timing question: what happens: the total fulfillment of the harmful action, or is it interrupted by the save?
Since everyone survives in case of a heal, it's number 2.
