In a related note, there's a guy two whole floors above us who's music we hear through the ceiling (yes, it's that loud) - gone up a few times to tell him to turn it down, which he has done... until a couple of days later. I don't mind during the early evening, but it often goes on until midnight. Next time I'm calling the building owner people, and after that the police to tell them his hallway stinks of weed.

*hugs for QT*
For about a month there were renovations going on in the unit/patio above us - they were using a drill to break apart the concrete floor so they could get in to replace the waterproofing. Unfortunately it was immediately above our bedroom, and they only waited until 7am before they got started in the morning. The damned thing was like a jackhammer, reverberating throughout our entire unit and literally shaking concrete dust from the ceiling. Worst thing was, we couldn't even complain and get them to stop, as the work was commissioned by the building's body corporate to meet building standards or whatever.
It was particularly bad when I was sick during the works - lying at home in bed all day, too ill to go anywhere, with my teeth practically rattling in my head and the sound probably breaching health and safety laws without ear protection.

Thanks for the support folks. Yeah, I usually wait to stop steaming before I do anything at which point I decide it ain't worth it. I am on very good terms with my landlords and they live next door so I can easily tell them. I was just trying to give the girl who actually is the tenant on the main floor a 3rd chance to get this guy in line before I go to them, as it's not her...she's lived there for like 3 years and it's only been in the last year that she's been dating this guy that this has happened. She's actually rather quiet herself.
However, as far as things I can do other than banging... the circuit breaker is in my apt, the next time the music gets too loud I may just shut the lot off, light a candle and read. Let them be loud in the dark.

Our landlord, who lives right above us, has three dogs, a cat, a squeaky-fucking-recliner situated just above our bedroom, and a gate just outside our bedroom window that he has not constructed properly, so whenever there's the slightest hint of wind, that gate will start banging and slamming against the gate posts, all the fucking night through...three goddam years of this!

My neighbours are pretty fantastic, noise-wise. One thing annoys me though, and that is they like to keep their bedroom window open in the summertime. Normally this would be fine, and it is for the most part, but it's pretty close to my own bedroom window and occasionally they'll forget to close it before they decide to 'get down' and the resultant sounds coming out of that window make it very uncomfortable for me to stay in my bedroom, even with headphones on.
It's a little disturbing knowing the lady next door is a bit of a screamer. Makes talking to them in the morning very awkward, to say the least. I think they're moving soon though.

Start playing Barry White out of the window as loud as you can while they're doing it.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Maybe it's mostly because it's not actually a discussion, more "You're stupid and brainwashed" vs "You're soulless and insensitive". In fairness, some people in there are a lot better than they used to be, but I've seen it so many times before on that board, hence the head-wall-banging.
Fair enough, it does get incredibly repetitive. I guess it comes down to the "history repeats itself" crap...besides, it is literally mental wall-banging. No-one can change anyone's opinion on the subject. I know Uni runs the occasional 'seminar'/debate thingy on the subject and while I'm sure they have potential interest value, you're either going to get a lot of people sagely nodding their heads, a lot of disgruntled people leaving, or a full-on flame war in an enclosed space. If you actually somehow managed to change the opinion of everyone there to one side (assuming a roughly even split of opinion to begin with), whatever that side happened to be, great...you managed to get 100 people to agree with you and become 'enlightened'. Now, take a look around. There's another 6 billion or so who still don't agree with you. So it's pointless, and I avoid them (and debate groups, whatever) for that very reason.
Something about an internet forum where you can have a (mostly) civil argument, though...guess it just makes the difference. Then it degenerates into non-discussion and lo and behold, I get to wave my admin wand and clean it all up. So win-win for me.

What's messing with my groove? Just watched the 2nd Louis Theroux documentary about the Westboro Baptist Church. Man those guys make me angry!
The filth they spew out & call it Christianity is so far from the truth it's unreal.

Haha, aye, unfortunately I missed it the first time he filmed them but I watched this one the other night and the things they come out with are just absurd!

Ugh. I was raised Southern Baptist. Granted, these guys are more of a fringe, independent hate group that've appropriated the label baptist and I know a lot of baptists who would rail at that, but in general, man, Southern Baptists are among the nuttiest lots you'll find in the US. Needless to say I defected at a young age.
And, for my on groove disruptor... I'm on day 3 of no nicotine after indulging a habit I never would've imagined would grab a hold of me for 3.5 years. All told I feel pretty good, but every few hours I just want to peel my own face off.

Arrrgh, my mom's husband managed - once again - to not pay the phone bills, which includes my mobile as well [yes, I let my mom pay for my mobile, family deal or something]. This is massively messing with my groove because my boss called yesterday, I missed the call and can't call back! Despite the prospect of maaaybe not having to work today, which in turn would be just perfect, because my PC - a known entity by now, I guess - crashed AGAIN and took once AGAIN already saved data with it - said data being my assignment, the one I've got to hand in tomorrow and which I spent three week on thanks to this lame-ass waste of power, and which I now need to redo in one day, which in turn would only work if I didn't have to work today. But my immediate boss is on holidays and doesn't care in any case whether the works gets done because he's leaving the company in a few weeks anyway, and the lady above him is so scary I could shit bricks everytime I see her - besides, the work needs to be done, and although there's time enough, she'd of course rather see it done this weeks instead of the next. Aaargh.. Yay for taking the train for one hour and a half to work, maybe to discover I could've stayed at home and redone my assignment, for there's no way she'd let me go when I'm there already *sigh* Please, someone, stop me from smashing something against the wall..

I used to be able to watch iplayer and 4od here in Finland because the VPN link to my London office somehow tricked the browser into thinking I was in the UK. For some reason that doesn't work any more and I'm cut-off

Now I just have to figure out how to make iplayer work again in time for Eurovision

I really wanted to watch this too. I just saw the first one he did and would love to see the follow up. I guess I'll just have to wait until it becomes more widely available. For anyone that wants to see the first one, you can watch it on this site, along with lots of others: http://topdocumentar...egory/religion/
