As if it weren't enough that last week at work was pure hell, now Four Riders of Apocalypse have decided to visit my apartment as well. I KNEW that the stupid water tap in the bathroom that got broken a few weeks ago was just the beginning of a disaster... Now, when your apartment starts falling apart around you - who you gonna call? Yes - Mr. B! But he's like half a world away right now... :p So, I had to get some professional help. Someone to put the new kitchen together, and new bookshelves, and repair the shower, and change the curtains and the lamps and do all those little things that need to be done. I know it costs a lot, but I'm willing to pay, so I just need someone to get their ass over here and do it. Sounds easy? Well, it isn't. Surprisingly enough, while everybody is whining about the "big evil crisis" and lack of paying customers and while small companies are going down like butterflies after the mating season, NOBODY wants to do this stuff. It's peanuts, they say. Too small assignment to bother with. :p So, after 2 days of calling around every possible company I could find in the phone book, I finally got this nice carpenter who apparently had no problems with earning a lot of money for a peanut work, and he came over on Saturday and did all that needed to be done. He did all the hard work, I repainted the walls and now my apartment looks beauuuuutiful again. BUT: When I asked him to take away the old furniture and throw it away, he couldn't do it (due to quite complicated regulations concerning the disposal of old furniture here; his company is not registered to do it and he can't transport it in his company truck blah blah). So now I'm sitting in my beauuuuuutiful apartment... on a pile of junk. And the whole story is being repeated all over again. Calling all possible transport companies, asking them to come and get it, but - hey, it's peanuts, they won't do it... And since Mr. B is the only one among my friends with a big car... well... AAAAAARGH!!! :)
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

Parents and little siblings are going to QLD tommorow, where the temp will be 25 for six days straight. Meanwhile I must stay back with my crutch-ridden brother at my grandparent's.

Just failed in my latest attempt to give up smoking. I lasted 12 hours, and I was asleep for 7 of those. :)

@Hinter: Ok, you caved. Try again tomorrow.

Today was my first day back subbing. Freshman band classes, each almost 2 hours long, 60 kids to a class, lesson plan was "find some music in the office for them to sightread and play for you." I hate my life.

Those regulations are real and designed to save people a whole lotta hassle. They generally work.

Look in your newspaper classified for "Handymen" or "Junk Removed". Or go to your local seedy bar and look for some older guys with paint and drywall dust all over them and ask them if they want to earn a quick 100 bucks. Craigslist may work, but only if you've got some unusually techno-literate handymen around.

Argh. I tried to install Empire Total War this afternoon (my post in the "What's Making you Happy?" thread alluded to this) as it was the first time I had to kill for a long time. Turns out my computer DVD drive doesn't work any more. At first I thought it was the game, but then I tried a DVD, a music CD and another game and none of them worked.

After half an hour on the phone to Dell, including a time where the guy took control of my computer (which was a bit freaky but cool) it turns out he couldn't do anything so he has sent me a new disc drive which I have to install tomorrow. Which is fine, but tomorrow I'm pretty busy all day so I have to wait longer to install the game and play on its glorious goodness... :)

The gall!

Same old, same old....but it really does feel stifling being at the g-mother's. No Malazan, since they have no interwebz...the only reason I'm posting this is because I snuck home.

Also, I forgot my food today-as a result I have a thumping headache.

Can't sleep. Alarm going off for work in 5 hours, which isn't as bad as it is sometimes I guess. Yesterday I went to work on one hour sleep.

Having moved twice in the last three months, I know that feeling as well!

Me - my bloody car failed it's MOT because the rear seat belt was frayed. I never carry people in the back of the car so it never gets used, but its going to cost me 70 quid to sort it. Pah!

Throat hurts. Had to talk and project my voice for the entire period, 5 periods today. I might lose my voice, which will make work tomorrow difficult.

Don't have too much sympathy, she's only packing a suitcase for a paid trip to the US. The jibber.

Ooh, that means getting on an aeroplane - even more sympathy from me. Do not like flying coffins.

I thought State Auto Inspection was bad, but the back seat belts, serious tough. Seventy quid sounds like alot. Hate when that happens.
