Correct. Canada is located North of the USA and conducted the only successful invasion of your country. It's why your cute little White House isn't the original.

Sorry.
Eh.

It was never really fair you know. You had moose and polar bears. In 1812 USA didn't even have grizzlies.

Back then the polar bears still spoke French though, so they weren't all that useful.

And the USAians had cougars

*sigh* So, DnD, again.. We had this huuuge discussion after the last session that two people felt that the rest were not taking the roleplay seriously enough and that there's too much comedy happening. Guess who derailed the entire freaking evening with pointless repetitive comedy, which stopped being funny after the third repetition or so?

I'm fuming. Words will be had after I've had a night to sleep on it and calm down some. First I get accused of power gaming just because I bothered to freaking know my character's stats and spells, then what little enjoyment I get out of each evening (mainly by seeing to it that plot actually happens rather then repeating playing out having breakfast AGAIN) is highjacked by cookie-cutter standard 'let's get drunk in yet another tavern!' nonsense. Ugh.

Oh yuck!

The ridiculous behaviour and ensuing drama that always seemed to arise is what makes me not miss D&D now I'm not playing, I must say.

Unfortunately, you'd find that kind of people no matter what system you're using. We mostly play D&D because we decided on it as a gag about five years ago, and it's been running well enough, especially since out DM is amazing. Now, suddenly, 'muh, not enough roleplay'. Thing is, everyone is the group is roleplaying constantly, it's just that two people seem to think that roleplay consists exclusively of dialogue, which is, frankly, cowcrap. Also, how they manage to want to play a fantasy roleplaying game without having any imagination is a mystery to everyone else in the group. Or how they manage to be indignant about me, the Warmage of the party, doing to much damage without bothering to even learn how to roll their own attacks, is frankly annoying.

Anyway, DM talked me into waiting another evening before potentially riping them a new one.

On the other hand, we'll be testplaying a homebrew Burning Wheel campaign set in Bakker's Eärwa in a couple weeks, and since only people who have an imagination and have read the books are invited, I am very much looking forward to having no idiots stand in the way of my entertainment.

Not too high, I'm afraid. Racial ability to rage tends to get in the way of skilling that one.

Sorry for double posting, BUT...

My mother recently stopped working (technically, she still has to work because otherwise she can't pay her half of the rent or anything, really) due to health reasons. And also because she's damn old enough to stop working (that's 67). First off, she was told that she's not getting one cent of retirement pension because she hasn't been working long enough in Germany (hell, MY pension fund is already actually existing, however small, and I've only been working part-time so far, but law shenanigans). Anyway, okay, there's always the route of applying for basic welfare. It's not pretty, but my mother's been working all her live and has raised two children on the side (which, btw, isn't even counted in her favour, even though every fucking politician is touting how important raising children is and how doing so should count towards the pension, blahblah).

That was fucking six months ago.

Now they decide that they can't decide anything until she's proven that she's not eligible for and/or receiving any pension from Ukraine. There's not enough desk to faceplant into. She's mostly been working in Ukraine back in the Soviet era. Wanna guess how much that would mean in pension money? And she's been out of the country for 25+ years! One of her friends, who's worked as a doctor for her whole life in Ukraine, currently receives about 1200 hryvnya in pension. Wanna know how much that is? 41 Euros and some change - that's 45 USD and some change. Per month.

So now she has to go to freaking Ukraine, somehow, and get a paper that proves that she's not getting any money from there.

WTF are they thinking? I can pay the rent on my own exactly once again now, then I'm out of savings. What do they think she's supposed to live on? She's 67 and has had a heart attack due to overworking already. Bastards. It's not like they can't legally give her money to live on THEN demand it back later should the situation arise that she's not eligible (which is 100% is).

/rant

Sorry, needed a place to rant. I'm putting all the money I'd saved up to, ya know, work on project that should bring in some more money on not getting kicked out of our already cheap place *sigh*

So my mother needs to get surgery in the next 2-3 days. Apparently both her wisdom teeth have gone horizontal and are putting pressure on the others causing agony and bleeding. A bit worried.

All I had when I got mine out was Novocaine. It was a very strange sensation. Like when your boots sink into mud and you gotta pull your legs up slowly, except it was teeth extracted from my gums.

BK is right about following the rules. No straws, no jawbreakers, no caramel, no taffy.

Hopefully it's a minor issue to take care of in India? That's is an in office fix over here to deal with. Just stay on her afterwards to follow the recovery rules cause the dry socket will hurt worse if she develops it.

When I had mine done Kelly and my old man said I was singing in the truck on the ride home I was so doped up.

The whole horizontal thing sounds pretty bad. As I said though I'm hoping in the grand scheme of things it's a minor office matter and not a hospital issue over there to take care of.

They gave me the white juice through an IV and had me count backwards from 100. I remember getting to 97.

Normally a wisdom tooth extraction would be a simple office matter, but apparently my mother's teeth are a bit deep and the dentist is saying that a hospital OT is better than the office in case of "complications". The teeth are horizontal, crooked and one of them somehow got infected.

That is actually the main reason I am worried. A tooth extraction would not be half as bad, this is a full on operation.

And yes, I am concerned with aftercare restrictions. My mother is very headstrong. She will obey the food thing easily. Its any rest and vocal rest that will be hard to enforce.

I had that when they were growing in when I was in Grade 12. I had to go to a surgeon's office, to get it done, b/c for the bottom ones they had to cut the gum to take it out.

Whole thing took over an hour, then he asked me "do you want to come back in about 2 weeks for the other side, or do you want it all done today?" I said do it today.

I think they gave me T3s after, but i don't remember if my mom let me take those (I try to avoid painkillers).

The top ones were done by a diff guy a few years later. I have a heightened resistance to novocaine (meaning it takes longer for me to actually freeze), and he didn't know that, so he just started yanking them. it was a very quick procedure, though.

Ando, if it's the top teeth, it shouldn't be much of an issue. And in either case, the pain lasts a few days while the gums heal, then they just take the stitches out in a follow-up. Or you might even get stitches that dissolve in time.

EDIT: I wouldn't worry about the rest part. When your gums are cut, the after-pain is quite exquisite. (any mouth movement hurts). You really don't want to be doing anything. And proper strong painkillers will make her sleep while it heals.

Its the bottom ones. That explains why the doctor was talking about pain and swelling and he said painkillers would be needed to cope afterwards.

My mother is a teacher and very dedicated one. Literally any day off she takes, its like a personal insult. That is the part I am worried about, that she will try going to school on painkillers.

Just wanted to congratulate this thread on getting to 1200 pages (default view) and 24,000 posts! Unbelievable amount of posts here - and I know many of them are, thankfully, support for other people who have something groove-messing going on in their life.

Cheers, everyone!

Job interview for a promotion tomorrow at 9.30. I'm not really prepared. I'm so tired I'm trying to decide if the bigger risk is being prepared but too tired to do it justice versus being fresh and do a decent job of winging it. The other two people interviewing for it are pretty hopeless so I should be a shoe in unless I'm deluded. And if I'm that deluded then I'm not getting the job anyway. So I think I'll go with the winging it option but I'm concerned I'll wake with the horrors in the middle of the night and then be tired AND unprepared.

Fuck it all really. If I can't do the interview exhausted then I can't do the job exhausted either. That is default state these days.
