I was in a meeting with only accountants. It was alright until they started on the white board. Coloured markers, T-accounts, lots of loud arguments and wiping of offending colours, I saw all the choices leading up to this moment flashing before my eyes.

Of course she's right. Vegemite is the nectar of the Gods, given vitamin B-enriched form.

Marmite - like Baldrick's breath - comes straight from Satan's bottom.

I think I can settle this for all of you.

They both taste like salty dog poo.

Oh sure, side with one of your own, racist! Do they make you remove your taste buds in order to be an Australian??

I thought Marmite evolved into Vegemite when you beat the Rootown trainer and get the Eucalyptus Leaf Stone.

I am now in that terrible situation of having to be polite to people I hate

Its a family gathering and there are a couple of people I absolutely loathe. But since society frowns on sniping your uncles and I am pretty sure both of my parents would literally start crying, I am going to have to grit my teeth and endure this. This weekend is going to be hell.

Nah not my legs. I had the most terrifying dream about Jaina. I couldn't get to her no matter how hard I tried during something happening. It was horrible considering I rarely have nightmares and it's left me in an unTanner like mood since I woke up shouting.

Ah one of those. Yeah I understand. Vivid nightmares like that stay with you and mess with your head. Last time something like that happened I had to take a stroll to clear my mind

Does society frown on physically beating up your uncles? Seems like a possible "to the winner go the spoils" situation.

If only I could... seriously I hate these guys. They take every opportunity to profit from other people's hard work, I feel really bad for my aunts.

Depends on location, worry. Fairly common here. Is the rich uncle involved in this?

Nope, different people. Neither of them work - one of them literally said that regular office work is beneath him. My aunts work hard, they manage both the workplace and the household. My uncles drink endless cups of tea and share those obviously fake FB things. Face to face you realize that they believe every word of those stories are true. And they are not shy about lecturing you regarding how you should live your life - I remember one of them told me at 14 I should think about a nice marriage and he knew a good family.

I honestly don't know why my aunts are still with them. One uncle is a light sleeper and if he wakes up in the night at all, due to say a loud car or something, he starts screaming at my aunt.

I had a relation (married to my aunt) who I never liked who sounds really similar. They spent their days doing fuck all and weren't the sharpest tool in the shed. I really hated when they/we visited. Mostly I hated how they never ate with their mouth closed and would spit bits of food out as they spoke. Thing that really annoyed me was how everyone just accepted their bad behaviour and never called them out for being rude or shouting etc. Plus, whenever I would say something about it I was always told 'that it's just for a day/night/etc' and to just 'be polite and don't cause trouble'.

Wasn't until years later when they died that it came out he was schizophrenic and frequently didn't take his medication correctly.

The only reason I mention it is because of the screaming in bed thing. He used to do that too which is what reminded me of him.

I don't think he has a mental problem, I actually know a couple of people who do and he has no similarities with them - honestly I think the screaming comes more from his tremendous sense of entitlement - my aunt loves to read and I distinctly remember my uncle saying that he hates that as it means she is not working around the house or bringing him tea in that time

As for your families reactions, its literally a recording of what my parents say. I am always astounded that the basic rules of politeness and courtesy that were drilled into us as kids apparently don't apply to others and they are fine with that.

We live right downtown in my city, and as more time goes by (I've lived downtown now for 12 years) more sketchy and scary stuff happens in our neighbourhood. More crazies. More crime. Like I can't even be sure when I go out of my house that I'm not going to be accosted by someone. I've always got my eye out for sketchy stuff now. I've literally been conditioned to EXPECT that kind of thing whenever I'm out. The more things that get reported on the news that happen near our condo, the more annoyed I get. I can't go to get a coffee in the morning on a Saturday a block away without being confronted with crazy people, or criminals, or just general nonsense. In fact, it's easier to count on my hands when I DON'T see that, rather than when I do.

This is no place to raise a family. And both my wife and I WANT to skip out to the suburbs...but we have to wait till she's off Mat Leave as we can't get a mortgage when she's on it as they look at her income on Mat Leave as opposed to what she makes when she's working (I haven't a clue why; it's not like she's out of a job or something). So we are stuck, at least till next fall, living in a place where I feel apprehensive about taking my daughter out in the stroller, let alone the baby bjorn.

Sigh. Messing with my groove man.

Does it have to be just uncles? I've got relations very similar to this that I'd like to see exiled into a non-dimensional abyss.

Wife going in for back surgery on Monday morning.

In one of the theatres I work in, with people I work with. It's weird, and scary, because although we do ops in there all the time you can't help but worry.

She's having a disc fixed as she's been having leg pain for months now; the guy doing it is really good, and I've managed to get one of the consultant anaesthetists I know to look after her, but I'm still not going to relax until it's done and she's back on the ward.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Sharon Jones died. Not really in my wheelhouse, but just another living legend death in 2016. My sister just saw her a few months back though and had a great time, said she gave it her all despite her illness (pancreatic cancer).
