Portugal won. I gotta listen to celebrations all around for the rest of the day.

This is why I'm SO glad I no longer live in the Little Portugal part of the city anymore. Last time they won something (a fair number of years ago now) the honking and celebrations lasted like 24hrs...and when I say honking I mean them driving down our street, in traffic, and putting a brick on the horn so it continuously sounds forever. I was ready to go friggin mad from it. I get it, you're excited and want to celebrate...but can you MAYBE not disturb all the neighbors with your overzealousness? And it's only ever Portugal too, whenever another team wins something (even when the Raps were doing well) it's NEVER that bad.

Montreal when the Habs are on a streak.

Astoundingly, Ottawa when the Sens are even mildly within sight of the playoffs.

Cut my mother trucking finger open again.

I'm gonna have to start wearing those gloves they sell on infomercials that blades cant cut through.

On the bright side, I can do this.

Was just informed that next week I will have to work a shift from 8:00 am to midnight. It's fine, I didn't want to see my family that day anyways.

Use that day to start your new healthkick just to make it extra special!

But seriously liver, cholesterol and type 2 diabetes are all fixable if you hit them in good time, never too late to start. Set a short term goal just to see how it feels. You can always go back to your current lifestyle if you don't like it.

Yeah basically I can either do nothing and have the doctor cut off my feet or fix shit. I should probably fix shit. It's not like I am unfamiliar with regulating food intake. I wrestled in high school. I've gone days without eating, on purpose. I used to work out for 6 hours a day. I can certainly eat like a reasonable person and do moderate exercise.

Shit, just giving up fast food breakfast and soda might be enough to lose enough weight to get everything back under control.

Cutting out fizzy drinks is a really quick and easy one (after the first few weeks). I did find myself really craving a can of ice cold.coke for a few weeks, but once my body realised it wasn't happening it was more than satisfied with h2o.
Apart from as a mixer with my gin/vodka I haven't drank any coke or fizzy sugar carbonated stomach rot for easily 4 years, don't miss it at all.
You'll find that cutting down on the fizzy beverages makes cutting out junk snack foods easier as well, Imo it's a great (for me it was the best) place to start ok trying to eat much healthier.

This is maybe a minor whinge, and I'm not sure how justified I am in feeling upset about it, but here goes. My parents have both spoken to my ex since we split and said they were really sorry about what's happened, that they're very fond of him, Dad did the whole "would have been happy to call you son in law" thing and have really gone out of their way to make sure he doesn't feel like there's any animosity.

I've heard nothing from his parents at all. His explanation was "they'll want to see that everything is okay first" – which feels like whether they have anything to say to me will depend on whether we fall out, which takes two people. Not just me. It almost feels like conditional on good behaviour.

I don't know, it just feels like my parents made him part of the family and have wanted to make sure he doesn't feel ostracised – whereas by comparison it feels like I've stopped existing or mattering at all in an instant. It brings up all those useless "did they actually like me anyway?" feelings.

Bah. I guess this is somewhat part and parcel of what to expect in the "it'll get worse and then better" way of these things.

My best friend died a few months back. He was like a brother to me, knew each other for 18 years.

Throughout the MBOTF series, the bromance theme always made sense to me as a reader. He was the only guy whom I could confess nohomo love to in a conversation, a true confidante.

Now the other night I couldn't sleep well, various life struggles stressin' me out, and I realized that him and I were each others mental support network for years. The loss is felt deeply sometimes more than others, and today it is messin' with my groove.

Sorry to hear that. My deepest sympathies.

That. Also, your parents are bigger/nicer people than his.

But ultimately they are his parents and you never have to see them ever again for longer than it takes for a polite nod, so stop caring.

Yep, it's diabetes. Fuck me. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see from the test done today how bad it is. Really have my fingers crossed that I can get away with just taking a pill while I am trying to get things turned around and don't need insulin right away.

Any diagnosis of a serious disease sucks, but the fun thing about this one is that I don't think people first response is sympathy, it's going to be more along the lines of "serves you right you fat fuck." I get it, and don't disagree, but it adds a little extra unpleasantness to the thing.

Trying to change is going to be a bitch. I have a deeply unhealthy relationship with food, which is how I got here in the first place. My initial response to getting bad news like this is that I should go eat a bunch of shit to make myself feel better. That's hardly a productive response.

On the other hand, I keep remembering thisnl scene from the Simpsons, with the hillbilly (Cletus?) and his giant fat wife. For some reason she has a bag of sugar that she is pretending to be a baby, someone mentions eating some of it, and she replies "doctor says if I eat any more of this baby he's going to take my foot!" I have to stop eating the baby, or the doctor is going to take my feet.

Fuck.

Raymond .. For every pound your over 200 pounds.

Your heart has to pump blood. An extra mile.

Think about it.

I wish you every positive support that I can and remember you can turn the tide. (Think about as you love the burn and pain of exercise and reduce those carbs)

You got this. This your fucking challenge.

The best advice I ever heard for dealing with between meal cravings is to say to yourself "If I still want it in 30minutes then I can have it" and then go and do something to take your mind off it. Nine times out of ten your rational brain has taken back control by then and you choose not to have whatever it was. It helps take away the mental issue of wanting something more because it is "forbidden".

Works for me anyway but probably depends how your brain is wired. I also use it for "forbidden" meals. If I still want it on Friday night then I can have it.

Good luck though, whatever you decide to do.

I'm not by any means what I would consider over weight but I did have, for years, and abysmal diet (that doesn't mean I ate cats, unless the local Chinese was cooking them up like the rumour mill constantly suggests) I just got away with it by having a high metabolism and an active life. But I would easily sit down in front of a film with a bottle of coke and two/three of the big bags of Doritos with dip and a packet of biscuits. A snack whilst reading a book was a can of coke and 3/4 regular sized bags of crisps, and some biscuits. The snack treat part of my lunch at work was a can of coke, a couple of packets of crisps, and a couple of.biscuits.
I still binge out on occasion, but it's only a few times a year now.
The simplest way to crush snacking and unhealthy eating is to not have any of it in your house. Or a very small amount, so you don't run to the shop and fill a trolley with crisps.
If you are someone who snacks whilst watching tv or reading, eat a solid, healthy, meal.prior and then you will know anything you feel is not hunger pangs, it's your brain trying to drag you down. Keep a pint glass of water (not cold but I find chilled works) beside you, a few sips of that can turn your brain off again for a little while. Throw your soda in the bin, right now. Snacks taste better with fizzy drinks,.culling that made cutting down on crisps and biscuits so much easier. I could easily have devoured a whole multipack of walkers (the big supermarket ones) in a day at uni if they were in the flat. Remove the object of your temptation.

My friends and I are getting close to 30 and health is becoming a more serious concern, as people get desk jobs, become less active, but try to carry on as if we're still 20.

One of my friends was very much like Maccy. Recently he cut out on pop by replacing it with naturally carbonated water. I know it's not an American thing to drink, but it quickly helps to reduce calories.

For myself, I started to go to the pool and exercise regularly after I spent good 6 months recovering from a soft tissue injury that I probably wouldn't have even noticed 5 years ago. I guess you can say I got a soft wake-up call.

In terms of diet, i'm still far from healthiest person around. I do try to limit eating out on junk food to no more than 2-3 times a week (though if I have a crazy deadlines-full week @ work I'm likely to buy a boxes of cookies an devour them as "brain food" over few days) and try to control how much junk/sweets I eat at home (my mom always has something in the house. Though we never buy chips). One thing I found helps is always check your weight before sitting down to dinner (usually right after I exercise and take a shower)- that way if I'm significantly off the goal weight, I know to take it easy on seconds or any dessert.

Very minor thing comparatively, but I'm sure my fellow Brits can empathise...

So I did a couple of washes this morning because it was a dry, bright and warm day, I hung them outside. I then put another wash on and thought I was doing well. Then it started tipping down with rain, so all the clothes that were nearly dry are now soaked and the third wash is nearly ready. I have no more space on the clothes horses to hang more clothes so I have to put the heating on so things will dry quicker on the radiators...

This also put an end to my plans to paint the fences and mow the lawn. :p

EDIT and now the sun has come out. :p

Simple! Just get some rope and tie it across your biggest room, try and get 3-4 criss crosses and then along the walls for the really long stuff like sheets, then turn on the ceiling fan. And you are done. Everything should be dry in 12 hours
