My uncle. My uncle is quite rich and now spends his retired life travelling around the globe and taking tons of pictures. Which would be fine. Except my uncle is also an asshole who goes out of his way to offend people. For example he asked to see my cousins new watch for the sole purpose of telling him its cheap and shitty, and will break easily. My cousin saved up for that watch.

Recently he has started travelling to places and doing things I have always dreamed of but can't see myself doing for the foreseeable future. And of course he is plastering these pictures everywhere. Now if this was FB I would ignore. I do this all the time. But the guy is such a narcissist he is sending group emails to all family members with links to his albums asking for feedback and comment.

WTF.

I always check email notifications immediately as I get some time-sensitive stuff and I have dropped important stuff to check my phone to find its another one from him. Infuriating.

That's just horrible.
It's "I don't even know whether I should giggle or die" terrible.
Can't you block his email? From your description it doesn't sound like he is that important to you.

Are you in line to inherit anything from him? If not yeah then just block

I might actually just do this. I haven't so far as my mother is big on the "blood is thicker than water" thing and likes us to be on good terms with everybody.I don't get why. He isn't even her brother, just a cousin. But after these emails I might just have to block him. I wish I could route his emails to the Promotions tab in Gmail.

I also need to go into FB, be a man and block around 50 people. That might just make it useful again.

I'd argue the reverse. If you are in line to inherit something. Block him. It's not like he'll notice.

If you don't care about feasting on the relatives financial carcass, then why not just tell him you feel like he's being an ass, instead of just spending years being a mad at a person who is enjoying his life.

I have to be honest, from the little information you posted Andorion, it just sounds like you're frustrated that you don't get to travel as much as he does. It's not your Uncles fault that your message settings are set to alert you of all emails. He's not posting e-mails to make your life worse.

Are you serious?
He is bragging about his money/travels by emailing all the pictures to anybody. If the point was just "I'm enjoying it" he could just post them on FB or say that to his family.

This. Posting these to FB is normal and perfectly appropriate. I wouldn't care at all. But literally emailing everybody - he emailed me, my brother, my father, and specifically asking them to view and comment - thats intrusive and annoying. Its not like he is ignored on FB.

And usually I am not mad at him. I am indifferent to him totally. But when he goes out of his way to create a scene at a social occasion, or where he emails you for something he does not need to, that is annoying. This just looks like attention seeking to me.

Its not exactly taboo... its just very difficult.

Sigh. I usually just ignore these things. I have gotten quite good at it.

But the reason for my post is that lately its so annoying. I mean 5 emails in 5 consecutive days, each for a different album?

I even like travel albums. I have another uncle who travels a lot due to his work and posts lots of cool stuff. Only he posts them on FB and does not shove them into peoples faces. I just like compartmentalising things. Email for personal and work stuff, FB for wider socialising . So when it starts to leak it gets annoying

Always a fun one when someone has a lot more cash than others but no self awareness. Just be the bigger person - skim or redirect his emails, know enough about his travels to be able to have a conversation that goes "I would love to go there, it must have been amazing" and when he puts people down in front of you call him out on it. Doesn't need to be a big deal, just joke "Hey he saved up for months for that" and it might sink in.

That, or you could play the shameless, poor relation and constantly try to hit him up for money. Then maybe he'll start avoiding you! He shouldn't be flaunting it if he doesn't want people to see him as nothing but an old moneybag.

JK! Your mom will lecture you endlessly if you do that.

My aunt just keeps sending me "inspirational" forwards, usually religious-themed. It's always the same, so they just go straight into the deleted folder.
"Did you get my email?"

"Uh. Yeah...It was very...inspirational."

Most people treat others based on how they want to be treated/expect to be treated etc. Maybe as far as he is concerned, your uncle feels he is just keeping in touch with the family and sharing his life with his family. Obviously, there may be other reasons why you don't think much of him and which colour everything else. His comment about the watch was possibly just trying to give advice - thoughtless but not necessarily meant to be nasty. Maybe try an experiment - flood his e-mail account with images of things which you like and ask for his comments. His response to that should be giving you a pretty good indication as to whether he meant to share or gloat.

You know that bit in Jurassic Park where the T Rex first turns up? Rippling cup of water? That's what it's like when I walk into a room now. Or maybe it's more like Mr Stay Puffed in Ghostbusters...... Nine days overdue! Everyone has given up asking for updates. Hope the little bugger isn't so hard to get to move out when he's older.

Boo for 9 days overdue! Hopefully baby comes soon! Also, are they inducing you if you don't pop soon?

Standard practise on the NHS is to start induction at 12 days overdue. I turned down an induction appointment for Sunday as I don't want to be induced without medical reason - the date isn't a good enough reason for me. Induced labour is likely to be more painful and end up with an intervention. I do not buy into the fetishisation of "natural" childbirth, get the buggers out with whatever method and pain relief necessary but I'm not picking one that is more likely to be worse just because of NHS stats. My thinking is unless anyone's health is in danger let it happen on its own or give me an elective c-section. My local midwife is a legend and agrees with me so helped me argue with the hospital. I'm booked in for "monitoring" if I'm still waiting next Tue at 42wks and then I expect they'll not let me come home home without a fight. Hopefully won't get that far. My body has obviously enjoyed being pregnant SO much that it doesn't want it to end!

Mac - I had a really hot curry the other night and my arse has not forgiven me! There are so many things wrong at that end I AM NOT doing that again. And I've never felt less sexy. It is just not happening. Mr PigDog suggested sex might help last night and I said "You really want to hump this?" and he said "Well I didn't mean with me". Ha ha!

Ah, I see. I understand it. My wife would rather not be induced either if she's late when the time comes. But our hospitals are pretty strict on it though and will do it anyways, no arguing. My sister in law just had twins and was induced because she was late...the boy came no problem, then the girl was breach and had to be emergency c-sectioned out (and was code pink....not breathing, cord wrapped around her throat). All are well now, but now my poor sister in law has had to do both natural delivery from induction, and a c-section (which she was knocked out completely for as the anesthetic wasn't working on her belly)...which has basically made it so she can't lift either of the twins or her two-year old eldest. It's been an absolute mess.

Hope yours comes naturally then.

Our health service bullies people into induction too but they can't do anything if you don't agree to it. If you stick to your guns you can get what you want but it's hard to keep arguing with doctors and midwives who play the "increased risk of stillbirth" card.
