I am spending half of Valentine's Day getting lectured by my mom on it being dangerous to be outside after dark *facepalm* I'm not 12, damn you.

I'm spending it 1250 miles from my dearest.
I was supposed I be on a valentines/birthday spa weekend this weekend.
Had to cancel.
Bummer.

Be home soon I guess.

Only got to spend half of it with the missus, but it was worth it.

Also Deadpool owns, go watch it.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I spent it painting the bathroom ceiling and bedroom windowsill and then cleaning layers and layers of diy dust from all over the house. The only time we spent together was fighting an unstoppable leak in the kitchen. Patched it up until the emergency plumber comes tomorrow.

I'm having a bit of a silly problem, and it's messing with my groove that it even IS a problem.. maybe the forum is wise?

A friend I haven't seen in a while is throwing a birthday party and I'm invited.. That's great as out schedules rarely match enough to meet more often. I even know what to get her and she's one of only two people from my former school I can bear to talk to.

On the other hand, from previous outings with her other friends I know that them and me have exactly one thing in common: that one friend. She also, not too long ago, said something that annoyed me a lot, basically telling me I'm just imagining my sexual orientation. I'm not exactly holding that against her, under any other circumstances, but I'm not sure I feel like sitting in a room full of people I don't give a hoot about with her the only person I can talk to, suspecting she might be planning to introduce me to some supposedly nice chap I could care even less about, and not even being able to hold a proper conversation with her because, hey, she'll be the important person of the evening!

Additionally, I was at a 'lots-of-people-I-don't-know-with-the-one-person-I-do-know-as-the-highlight-of-the-event'-thing just yesterday and I'm meh about a repeat this soon. Last time I went to one of her parties I ended up with my first and only hangover out of boredom.

The obvious answer, of course, is not to go there, but she is my friend and I know she'd be happy, knowing my dislike of people and I tend to want to see the few friends I do have happy-ish.

Blah. I wanna be a hermit crab.

Tell her you can't promise you can make the whole party cause you're feeling pretty bad but you'll make it as long as you can.

Take a bottle of something in an emetic flavour so if she does try and hook you up with someone and he turns out to be a dick, you can become a particularly disgusting firehose, reinforce your reason for not staying too long, and make your point

Firstly the whole sexual orientation as imagined thing is a red flag for me.

Also if you really dislike it so mch why make it a firm commitment? Pop in, give the gift, have cake (always have cake) and then leave. Make it a 30-45 minute thing

I agree. Make an appearance but have an out you can easily fake to leave if your not having fun. Maybe you actually will this time though and not mind staying.

Or just drink until you do....look, it works, ok?

Urg, I wouldn't go - I hate situations like that. I'd come up with a very good reason not to be there, and try to arrange a time to see her another time without the crowd. I always found that even if you plan an out, it still looks like your making an excuse to leave; and you end up with more explaining to do to people you don't have to answer to in the first place!

If she's a real friend she'd understand how you feel anyway - and if she's not, I wouldn't put myself through too much over it.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yet another option - go before the party to help her set up/get ready and then leave as it gets started. Have a lie about something else to do or just be straight with her "I want to see you but you know I'm not a fan of parties". Or help with the cleanup the day after....

I also agree with you letting the sexuality comment go if it was a thoughtless one off. Friends are allowed to put their foot in it from time to time.

Edit to add - feel ill from screwed up body clock. Head woke up at 4am on Monday morning so I fell asleep at 9pm yesterday and head decided to wake up at 3am this morning then be in a nice deep sleep when my alarm went off.

My second game on Sunday was at 10:25 PM. On Valentine's day.

Predictably, most of my team didn't show up, we ended up having one sub. Lost 3:2, but I'm not pissed off about the loss. What I'm annoyed with is that one of those kids managed to trap my ankle between his feet and do a "rainbow flip" with it.

Thankfully, I had a day off yesterday, b/c walking down stairs was all kinds of eternal pain.

Better today, but still feeling tense on all sides of the foot and lower leg. The gentle, melting snow is a bit of a challenge, as it makes walking more slippery.

Also, my briefcase handle ripped on my way to work. Gonna have to see if I can stitch it up tonight.

I may have fucked up.. I've said here before that the explosion of stray cats have lead to a culling of them when they start fighting or fucking outside a working household at 4am. The cutest few months old pure black kitten just tried to run into my house with my huge mutt right at my feet. That wasn't fun. I went out later and it came up to me purring away and kept trying to eat my fingers and toes it's so hungry so I broke down and give it cat food. I hope it wanders off but it just got a free meal on a chilly night so it probably just snuck into my bedroom while I slept and subliminally commanded me to continue. Cute cat sigh

Finally went to GP about something that's been worrying me. Now I have to wait for .. six weeks for a consultation.

Six weeks. That's not going to add to my stress levels too much.

I didn't really want to mention it to my wife yet, as the year hasn't exactly started well with her bout of pneumonia, her brother's father in law dying a couple of weeks ago just as his chemo started, and her friends new baby being diagnosed as being Downs.

I'm trying not to worry, but they've already called to arrange a second blood test as there was enough up with first one that they want to repeat to confirm. It's going to be a long month.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
