Yeah, I can see that lectures would focus on the satire since it's such a main part of the book, but in terms of enjoying it I think it's hard to replace actually having read the works in question. In general it makes teaching satire a bit hard, because it can be a bit like explaining the joke instead of people organically finding it.

I'm a big fan of Orwell's essays and journalism but not so much his fiction -- and let's face it, if they're teaching Orwell, there's a 95% it's one of two books. Pretty much whatever they teach, some people are going to just not be a fan of it; the reason I think Orwell isn't great to teach is because 1984 is long pretty heavy reading (so it sucks badly for the people who just don't like Orwell) and while Animal Farm is shorter and punchier, it's not great for teaching because of how heavy handed it is (which it's meant to be -- it's not like he's going for subtlety). Similarly Dickens -- it's not necessarily that I'm just not a fan, so much as the Dickens they choose to teach is almost invariably very long, and he's not the quickest read, so it's awful for anyone who isn't a fan.

The weather is beautiful. It's starting to get warm, and everything's in bloom.

In other words: Perfect weather to wish myself dead. Pretty sure I haven't drawn a proper breath this week yet. I certainly haven't slept more than on hour at once this week yet. Somuch precious time wasted on lying in bed and wishing I could sleep.

It's become a dog whistle for 'angry black men'. You can act like it isn't, but during the college/national 'riots' after championships, no one calls anyone thugs, just boys being boys.

Yeah I'm definitely finding it hard to focus in the lectures because of the exact thing you said. Its just not holding my attention.
You are so right about the books they teach on Orwell. The only one we got to study in depth was Animal Farm. I can imagine it would be terrible for people who dont like his fiction to be taught about it. as you said, the books they will invariably teach on are very heavy stories. I love it personally. I get what you are saying about Dickens though. While I am a fan, there are many other books i would prefer to study.

Im my eyes it seems like it is all part of the long established racism many places have. They are doing this to de-humanise their victims so what happens to them doesn't seem so bad.

A cousin who grew up together with my father until they were teenagers has been found as one of the dead in a hospital.

Five thousand others are also dead in the one hundred plus quakes that Nepal has experienced alongside the Big One.

My father's really torn up about this. We are here for him and the Nepali community in this area is sending doctors there with aid money we'll give them. Assuming everything goes well, we will give $10k to the relief efforts plus four doctors working for a month.

But the entire country has no faith in the government and the coordination of efforts is not good. More will die and more will be hurt.

That's messing with my groove.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

So sorry to hera that. Just today I was reading reports of how helicopters are bypassing many areas and how many people are still isolated and without relief. It seems that there isn't really an effective organization to channel and distribute all the material that is coming in

I was actually reading something about this the other day. There is ways to recover a unsaved document i think. just go file, recent, recover document. I think. Hope you get it back

Another cousin passed away after injuries sustained when a wall fell on him.

I think that's it for deaths, but many cousins are leaving the north to go south or west for a while until the shakes stop.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

So the CDP RED job is a no go. Seems I'll be trapped in this piece of shit job in this piece of shit company in this piece of shit town for a bit longer.

I hate how they never tell you why. Like, what did I do wrong? Do companies just enjoy watching people stumble doing the same mistakes during interviews again and again or something? Even criminals get a right to appeal...

Ask. Most HR departments are supposed to give feedback, and if they don't offer it, they should give it to you if you request it.

If they don't do that, you probably didn't want to work for them in the first place (I know, CDP Red should be awesome, so I fully expect they'd give you feedback if you ask).

.pl is a full blown employer's market so it's quite common for companies to just not say anything to protect themselves from toxic candidates that could start crying havoc and wrecking reputation online. Still, I've been halted in enough recruitment processes that I'm getting really tired of it. If there's something I'm doing wrong, I don't want to do it again next time... And they *should* want better prepared candidates, right?

Anyway, I did ask. We'll see if I get an answer.
