Uh, that was in response to Tiste Simeon. The law itself is not messing with my groove.

Nelson Mandela passed away. Sad day for his country, for the world in general, and oppressed peoples everywhere in particular. I suppose it's not sad for the bigots who permeate the Reading at t'Moment thread, which has long been a hotbed of racism, but it's important to acknowledge them so that we may learn from them.

Wait, what? Since when?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It was a night much like this one...nearly 23 hours ago. What started as a clash of ideas devolved into so much worse. Such hatred, such ugliness, such vitriol...it's hard to go back there in my mind, even now, all these hours later. Did good come from it? Any at all, in the end? It's hard to say. They say light always finds a way, somehow, even in the bleakest of circumstances. Some might name that Hope. As for me, my heart's not there. My heart's nowhere. Ashes in the void. I was just too close. I saw it all. And I can't call anything that spawned from that hellbegotten time Hope.

I was hoping for a summary but at least I don't have to dig through too much of the thread! Is it still horrible white noise or does occasional discussion happen in it now?

Also,

I've been pissed off about the debacle around the rumours of his death for the last three months. The fight over his inheritance was ugly and unfortunate. That he finally passed in relative peace...I'm not happy to see mandela go, but I think he deserved the rest. I saw him once when I was a kid, just walking around the mall. Protected ofcourse, but he didn't make a big thing of it. he was greeting people and shaking hands doing his shopping and making jokes in the process. An incredible man, easy going despite his amazing affect on this countries history. The world is poorer for his passing.

What's all this name changing shit? I don't know who any of you are anymore!

Messing with my groove - tonight my mum and her partner will stay with me for the 5th night straight. It's killing me!! I don't fight with my family and am willing to smile and grit my teeth through the things that bug me (of which there are A LOT) but I usually only visit them for one or two nights and organise lots of things to fill time so we don't have enough opportunity to remember how we struggle to get on. Five nights is an absolute killer!! You know the saying "You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family"? Well they should add "And you especially can't choose who your family choose to partner up with". My mum is pussy footing around her partner so much that we all have to bend over backwards to accommodate his foibles. We have to eat when it is best for him so he doesn't suffer indigestion at night, I have to give him his usual cooked breakfast every morning (maybe he should cut down on bacon if he doesn't want to suffer regular indigestion!) and I have to put up with him preferring to spend every evening stood outside alone in the cold and dark so he can smoke and drink (well obviously I don't HAVE to do any of these but you pick your battles right? My family has enough problems that kicking off about trivial matters is not helpful)! I don't mind any of his habits - he's entitled to have as many as he wants but when he comes to my house he can bloody well try and fit in or he should just not bother coming. I hate when people get caught halfway between joining in (i.e. turning up) and not being willing to adapt so they ruin it for everyone. If you're gonna be a shitbag then STAY AT HOME! It's not hard!!

Got all of my wisdom teeth out this morning, and I fainted about an hour ago. I am not feeling great right now.

That said, this entitles me to binge on jelly and ice-cream in lieu of normal food. :D

So I work for the Canadian Public Service... IT Services have always been a problem here, but never so bad as when they decided that IT Services should be centralized for the ENTIRE FUCKING PUBLIC SERVICE. Since then, we have days where it takes about 30 seconds to 2 minutes every time you click on a different button, or tab over to the next cell in Excel, or open a fucking program. Email servers go down on a much more regular basis. But the thing that really gets my goat is that they've centralized all software licence purchasing and renewals. I understand why they're trying to do it, but I have just been told today that because I did not get my request to have the 30 licences for the program that allows my staff to actually do their work (like, 90% of the work done in my directorate is done in this program) in to them by November 28th, they won't be able to renew it until AFTER MARCH 30TH! All they have to do is fucking sign a piece of paper, scan it and send it to the contact at the company we have the contract with. But somehow that's going to take more than 3 months??!!?!?! What's worse is that we transferred a part of our budget to IT for them to take care of renewing these licences on a yearly basis. This shouldn't even fucking BE on my plate, and now I've gotta fucking bitch them out till I get my way so that my staff can actually do the work they're paid thousands of fucking dollars to do... Cause it takes IT 3 fucking months to sign a piece of paper, scan it, and email it to someone...

Phew, venting does help now and again.

Solidsnape - it is pretty cool but weird getting used to a diesel. It feels lame finding an Astra to be cool but our old car was just so crap!

Messing with my groove tonight? I unwittingly Facebook friended a holocaust denier! He's an old colleague who I used to chat to about Sci Fi and random shit. I occasionally wondered if he leaned a little to the right politically but we never talked about anything like that in depth. He just "liked" a post with a picture of a jolly looking Hitler ruffling someone's hair and a comment about fighting for the truth and slagging off Zionists. There's no way that could be accidental before I defriend him?!

Is he easily antagonizable? If not, drop him.

Not having read the content of that post maybe he's just anti-Israel? I remember there being some cafluffle about Israel wanting to be catagorised as a "Zionist nation" or something like that in the news recently.

Maybe he was a really poor History student and doesn't remember who Hitler is. Maybe he just really liked the mustache and comb-over combination... that's possible, right?... Right? Guys?
