Really discouraged with my military endeavors currently. I have to drop 20 or so pounds in a month and a half but my problem is that it's not fat that's my problem. When I first enlisted I was 220 lbs, I'm now 235. It's a pain in the ass because it's not fat that I've gained, if anything I've lost what fat I did have, and put on muscle. Now I need to figure out how to reduce my overall muscle mass. I've stopped lifting, ate less protein but it's slow going. On top of school being a pain in the ass life is shitty right now lol.

How does the USMC decide what you have to weigh? Do they just use Body Mass Index or do they use your body fat %?

Yeah, I'd think that as long as you are in good shape strength and cardio wise then it should be cool.

A bunch of guys I know got out of basic about 2 months ago, now they have the nice assignments in Hawaii heh. Another friend in the Navy is in Italy.

After boot camp it's measured in a Height:Weight ratio.

When it comes down to shipping to boot camp though, they generally want to 10 pounds under the weight you enlisted as. The problem is, working out with the Marines and other poolees has added a hell of a lot of weight onto me. It's so damn frustrating because I pass the physical requirements to get in.

I've been looking forward to a few days away for months - no work, no kids, no chores, - just sitting in the sun with a glass of wine. Add some good reading material to the mix, the ipod and the best company in the world (Mal) - bliss. So now I have the shittiest head cold and a real bad ear infection to boot - my ear feel's like it's got a grapefruit inside it and it won't be quiet! So I'm not looking forward to the plane trip in the morning, I haven't slept properly for three nights and now that I've got antibiotics I won't be able to have a glass of wine until the week's course is finished, by which time I'll be back home again ;)

@ Assail. It may just be me, but that seems like a dumb thing to do. The BMI (height/weight) is used for normal people, not athletes or one would think marines. According to the BMI i'm obese, but by body fat % i'm below avg. But because no one seems to care about BMI i get listed as obese. You'd think the MC would use one that more applies to the body type they want. weird. It just seems stupid your being forced to lose muscle mass.

@Hetan. No words can describe how much that sucks.

Seriously, tell me about it. But it's down my recruiters discretion as well. And I'd rather not have my shipping date moved back. So I need to cut weight. This has happened to some of the big guys as well. Not an ounce of fat on them, and they've been told to lose muscle mass.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

One of my best friends lost his dad today unexpectedly. Apparently he was on his way to Florida for business and just collapsed while going through security. They figure it was a heart attack, but considering everyone thought his health was fine it's come as a complete surprise.

I'm not quite sure what's going to happen with all this. My friend doesn't get along with his mother much at all, but he's also got two younger siblings that he'll need to support. I've no idea what to say beyond offering my condolences and letting him know to call if he needs anything. I feel particularly bad because he called me after this had happened to hang out, but he acted so normal on the phone and didn't mention anything so I put it off 'til tomorrow... had I only known...
And so the First denied their Mother,
in their fury, and so were cast out,
doomed children of Mother Dark.

Damn!!! that is awful! :unworthy: It is always hard to know what to do in situations like that. All you can do is be there and offer your helping hand.

@assail, justt keep at it, try running alot more,

Ive been in the military for 6 years when I joined I was young and only 175, so I was the perfect weight, hit a growth spurt after joining and now I am 215-220, so I am technically overweight, how the army does it though (once your all the way in) they tape you, ie they tape your neck and waist and compute it, lucky my waist isnt huge and my neck is (18.5 inches) which is the perfect combo for the tape test...

Im not exactly sure how the marines do it when your all the away in, but hopefully its similar, that way once your in you can relax a little...

anyway, im sure you already know most of this, so try alot of cardio and no lifting... maybe hit the sona the day before you get weighed....

They probably want you in running shape. Save the lifting for post boot. You seem to have a good handle on things.

Maybe start doing interval training; it'll whip you into better shape and force your body to change the lifting muscle to running muscle.

Remaining friends with an ex is tough stuff. Especially when her new squeeze either hates me or is really uncomfortable when I'm around. In my head, I know it's done and have other women in my life, but it don't stop the weird feelings when I see her/them. Thus far I just quash them down and try being my normal self.

While secretly plotting his demise, of course.

Friggin renters move out and leave the place trashed.

Even if we keep their security deposit. I'd rather have the day back than spend it cleaning and patching up an apartment.

People just piss me off.

Hang in there Centz, you've gotten through worse, you'll get through this.

On my end I just didn't sleep last night.
Ok, I got about 3 hours in which was occupied by one awesome dream that ended with me knife fighting Clint Eastwood and winning and quoting Malazan.

Problem is after something that awesome I woke up and I was so full of adrenaline I started thinking about work and how much I hate customers. Kept me awake the rest of the night.
I think this is a sign that my job is stressing me out.

I'm so ridiculously hung over this morning I'm not going to be able to go out tonight to meet a mate, my new friend - we met when I licked mint sauce off her nipple, which is a good way to be introduced - twisted her ankle and I had to pay for a taxi to her place from wherever we crashed, and I've just remembered all the drama revolving around the friends I've been whining about in this thread and the Trickster thread again, after completely ignoring it and having an awesome time.

Shit.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
