I had drinks with someone for for the first time, in order to have a professional conversation about work/ishness - who happily took out his iphone and waved that he'd found me and my posts on here and knew about my father's health from a post I'd made in April. Errm.

That is so incredibly creepy. How'd he even find you on here anyway?

I'd assume and e-mail link via profile or something, but that is quite disturbing.

Yeah well it gets a bit weirder - when I put my real name and/or my email address into google, none of my personal pages come up. And what I find even odder is that my old posts got read so he has a sense of who I am.
I am keg lid. I have no sense.

I do that regularly and eliminate anything I don't like. You never know, who'll go googling for your name. I also have two e-mails, one for message boards and one for serious stuff.. Saves me sorting through heaps of spam on my serious e-mail account.

Whoa, that's creepy O_o
Besides that, money is messing with my groove; rather, the lack thereof *sigh*

I just broke up with an absolutely fantastic lovely woman. She cried.
I feel like an utter right bastard but it was the right thing to do.
Saying that still doesn't make me feel any better about hurting her.
Being grown up sucks sometimes.

OK, I'll bite - WHY did you break up with her if she's so fantastic?

She's moving to Vancouver come September. I didn't feel right continuing a relationship that was going to end so soon. We were getting more and more into each other and I thought it best to cut it short now and save some hurt from later.
Maybe a poor choice. I don't know. Stupid feelings.

Wow, you're rivalling me in the pessimism stakes. Vancouver isn't THAT far away from Calgary, especially for the right woman. And if the distance then proved too great, at least you would have given it a shot. But it's too late now I guess ...

I know distances get a little bit bigger up there in America's Hat, but if it's worth it, the distance can be overcome. You've gotta have an end point in mind though and a great connection. If you ended it now, then you were telling yourself it was good, but not that good.
It's probably the right decision, but make sure the door to go back isn't nailed shut with a skunk in the yard to discourage any backtracking from you.

Hey, that's a good point. I had never thought of it that way.

LDRs are possible, and at times probable, but also depend upon the sacrifice one is ready to deal with. It's a scientific formula.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
