Ah good old matlab. Remembering the day I went back to college and told the UG prof who was all over that shit program that NO ONE used it was great. Next you're going to be saying how some chem eng professor expects you to write a script to converge recycle streams with Aspen in fortran or some shit.

Actually, fortran is useful. But not for something so simple.

I would LOVE to see you prove that. No recursion, no arrays, 6 reactors in series, 28-30 recycleable streams, and three major products. Have fun.

Ugh... I've a drafting job due first thing tomorrow morning and I've not done one bit of it yet. Why can't AutoCAD be more fun?
And so the First denied their Mother,

Just updated my iPod touch software version and it fucking bricked the damn thing. Fuck you, Apple!

Here's hoping restore works (although, ominously, it didn't have a "restore" option... it had a "restore and upgrade to latest software" option. So chances are it'll just get bricked again).

edit:

Mathematica >> Matlab

Burn!

Crazy girl left another message detailing how she's forgiven me and telling me to meet her at a local coffee shop to hash things out.

As I see it I have a few options

1) Maintain communications silence and never talk to her again and just hope she eventually leaves me alone.

2) Call her and tell her to leave me the fuck alone

3) Meet up with her and tell her to her face to leave me the fuck alone

4) Ignore all warning signs and just go with it and tap that crazy ass.

Life's hard.

Yup, brick central.

Fuddled about for a bit, managed to get it working... basically, I found out that the new software thinks my USB 1.1 extension cable isn't good enough for it. It was good enough yesterday! God damn you, Apple, now I have to go buy a new extension cable. God damn you.

If you do those in reverse, you get laid and free of her.

Has it made the eye go red? If so, wear an eyepatch on the good eye the next time the kids are acting up and threaten them with DEMON MOTHER if they don't behave.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I was actually thinking of castrating the first douchegefag who laughs at me about it when I go shopping tonight (need chicken) and using his sack to make a leather eye patch. :whistle:

My eye also hurts, which is hopefully just because I cant stop thinking about it.

I have the flu right as I go into my week off. So now not only do I have to brave moving house, furniture shopping, planting a garden and (horror of horrors) my sister's 5th birthday party, I also have to do so with my head in a vice. And I dont get to see my girlfriend this weekend :whistle:

My two cents re programming languages - matlab is super powerful (built in libraries are great), but insanely annoying if you've been taught to program in a proper language. [0] is the correct address to start an array, not 1 dammit! And someone please add braces and explicitly declared variables.

Fortran is probably still the most efficient language for pure number crunching, but good lord is it anal (the older versions espescially) and hellishly difficult to figure out what is going on in someone else's code. Or even your own if you haven't looked at it for a while.

Seriously, just use c++ for everything, it's awesome! I miss programming ;) Gah, that's messing with my groove now too...

3rd year of varsity we had to write a home security app that used a webcam, server scripts and some sort of mobile access/app to check what was happening in one's home. He then told us we had to do it all in java (even the friggin server scripts), a language we had never seen before. Foolishly believing him when he told us 'it's just like c++, stop bitching', we then attempted this. Words cannot describe how irritating that language is. If you try do anything without an IDE (netbeans is the only reason I passed that course), you WILL spend your life trying to sort out your classpaths. At one point I had copies of my code in every single directory remotely related to my project in the hopes it might compile. Also, EVERYTHING is an object and you cant control the garbage collector. Which is fine until a native class refuses to operate properly when you call .Clone() and pointers start doing crazy shit you have no control over. And then your data gets eaten because the virtual machine thought you were done with it like a line above where it is next used. Plus it's always going to be slower than cpp.

It's a great language to learn in and the interoperability between OS's cuts down design time. There are a couple of nice things about it, inherits threadable and inherits observable are damn slick, but at the end of the day

cout <<

will trump

system.out.print();

well, I only ever took 1st/2nd year classes with java, which were basically "search the java internet thing", copy, paste, compile, submit. A.

Always had to put in an effort for cpp, which was time deducted from being a drunk or not-failing ChE courses.

Damn it I miss school.

Rodeo: 1 or 2 man, you don't want to get caught up in that sort of craziness! Or send a friend (that you don't like very much) to the cafe for you to tell her to stay the f*** away from you because you think she is crazy.

Rodeo, only a mind that has gone beyond sobriety can make this determination. Get drunk, call her up, and see where it goes.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

@Rodeo, I was initially going to suggest ignoring her entirely or just dialing her but after HD's post I think you should try his approach. If things go sour you have the added out of: "Whatever I said last night... I was just drunk."

@jusen:

Let's look at it this way: there's no good way to quantify achievements beyond the actual lab level.
The Bruce Almighty case comes to mind. Java is necessary to appease the n00bs. But if you want to do anything important, you need a better construct.

<-- toys pram -->

I'm having some problems with women in general... my aforementioned temp co-worker in particular, and my beef is: wh did she flirt outrageously and then back out by referring to the worksituation, expecting nothing has changed/will change on monday?

Think of that in the first place, hun, and save me the shitty feeling... or at the f-ing least before you engage in what was quickly becoming a kissing game.

@ RR: live dangerously, you only live once.

Crap... my friend who had leukemia and was healed has got it again. He had recovered and was doing really well but then they did some tests and the cancer has returned... It truly sucks and I'm feeling pretty rubbish about the whole thing... I am sure he will recover again, but it is still shocking and upsetting... :whistle:
