Question: You see a puddle leaking out of the bottom of a bag of pathogenic clinical waste. What do you do?

A. Perform the cleanup procedure that you have been trained to do?
B. Ignore it?
C. Sit down next to it and do your work?
D. Walk in it and spread it through the rest of the lab?

Answer: If you work in my lab, you do a combination of B, C and D and wait for Liz to turn up and perform A!

Caution: When Liz performs A, it is accompanied by a lot of shouting and swearing followed by reporting to higher authorities. You just can't get the staff these days. Who needs friends in the workplace anyway?

Maybe you should get them to watch this Call it a team building exercise or something...

You know SM, you're the only person I know who actually knows where to find songs about hard science (the LHC songs and such).
Do you go around looking for these things?

I'm pissed of that they are trying to stop Nick Griffin going on Question Time, not only do I believe that any elected official has a right to express their views, I also believe that the BBC has a duty to allow all political view points (barng those which express illegal intent) to be heard in so far as is possible.

Just because he's a half-witted, bog-eyed, sub-Mosley racist, in charge of a party of knuckle-dragging, socially undesirable, disenfranchised by their twatty self loathing, culturally alienated proto-brown shirts, doesn't mean I should be denied the opportunity to watch his paper thin policies be torn down while he is exposed for the utter c**ntbag he is.

The Griffin *spit* thing has me in two minds. Yes, he's an elected representative of what passes for a political party and hence should be allowed to express his appalling platform on the BBC. Hopefully he'll let the mask slip even further. And one would also hope that the good old Question Time audience will roast him on a spit. But I find him so hateful, on a deeply personal level, that I could do without the chance of even accidentally seeing his oily, reptilian face on tv, let alone hearing him speak... But that's the downside of having an impartial national broadcaster, I suppose. I can't say I'd swap the BBC for any other.

@ Darkwatch - They generally find me. The science blogs I read regularly (and a few of the others, like Boing Boing and Warren Ellis' blog) are not always completely serious, so they mention such geekery on video from time to time. When I saw Mezla's post I immediately thought of that particular video, which had shown up on Boing Boing the previous day...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I hope Jack Straw beats him to death with a copy of Arendt's "Eichman in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" while screaming "how can this be hurting you fucking one eyed tosspiece, this book shouldn't exist!"

The heating in my apartment is playing hide-and-seek with me... now it's on... ooops! now it's off... And we have minus temperatures outside. ;)

And my poodles are KILLING me. Dammit! Next time I should probably get me a flea-circus... easier to maintain... less territorial pissings going on... :)
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

I don't feel so good.

Also, I love Question Time, even though we only get to watch 30 minutes of it here.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I sincerely hope that someone points out the irony of them using a Spitfire in their latest publicity drive. Given the policies Griffin and his loathsome fellow travellers espouse would be pretty familiar to one of the sides in the last war. And it's not good guys...

I literally understand nothing about that sentence. ;)

In other news, I found out I have 2 3 hour exams on the same day, one immediately after the other. Sigh.

The way you talk about Mezla is the same way a 14 year old love struck boy talks about the girl he has a crush on.
The intoxicating effects of her being near.
Except that instead of being buzzed on love (read: lust) Mezla gets you drunk with booze in a very literal sense.

Fair enough, at least I'm still young at heart thenPosted Image

And we did just 'do' lunch, mind you following your logic wouldn't it be the alcohol I was in love with, since it's that that means 'I can't work or concentrate, Mezla is more of an alco-pimp.
