I'm getting fat.

Not just my usual kind of up and down occasional puppy fat or weekend beer belly fat. But actually fat.

I need to break out of the work fit I'm in, I need the money I earn but the hours and living style do not facilitate a healthy Macros.

Fucking Fuck

My dad is waiting for heart surgery. He had an angiogram on Monday which revealed that on top of the leaking valve they already planned to operate for, he's had a massive heart attack recently without knowing it (and proceeded to build a house in the interim.... how the man isn't dead is a miracle)....

So, I rushed down home on Monday night because all the messages he was getting were 100mph, very urgent, we're keeping you in so you don't fall down the list (apparently if he's sent home he drops three to four weeks down the list automatically)..... only to spend all day yesterday sat there with no word, and only confirmation he was being kept in overnight when I actually harried the ward sister about it. That was at ten to 7 in the evening, nobody had spoken to him about anything since 1pm.

Today is now the third day the surgeon was "absolutely definitely" coming to see him, and still nothing. The head of department was so shocked he was still on the holding ward that it genuinely made me think he'd been forgotten about (how in the hell do you lose a heart patient?!), and was going to "chase it up personally".

I'll give you three guesses who still hasn't seen a surgeon and is still sitting there with nobody telling him anything.

They are not going to forget me in a hurry the next time I turn up down there, that's for sure.

Frustrating as fuck but remember there's a fine line between advocating for your family member who is a patient and getting in the face of hospital staff trying to do their jobs.

Get on the wrong side of the line and you'll generate the opposite of what you're looking for. Be nice. By all means, be persistent, be assertive, be frustrated, but be nice.

Ignoring the zerohedge article, because it's from zerohedge, the BBC article about the closing of the outdoors club does mention this (though it doesn't exactly make the eye-catching headline they went with):

Quote

"In addition to the inherent risks found in many of these student activities that occur without fully trained guides or leaders, the behaviours of some students on unsupervised trips have become a concern," she said."These concerns have, at times, included the misuse of alcohol in the context of already risky activities. This mix is obviously dangerous."

The university said the clubs were only being disbanded in their "current high-risk model" and will be "re-organised" in order to provide more oversight by trained staff during activities.

Quick Ctrl+F of the article shows no mentions of either insurance coverage or legal liability. I wonder if there was actually any reporting done here beyond a few email exchanges and checking the club's Facebook page.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Sending college kids into the wilderness where they will get drunk and screw up things badly without proper supervision is a recipe for extremely bad things.

Getting lost, hurt, assaulted, dead, start a wildfire etc. This is all quite possible and I'm amazed that people say this reorganization isn't a good idea.

Do high schools still have those "alternative PE" classes for the heads and freaks who couldn't hack it in the traditional PE curriculum? In my high school the class was called "Rocky Mountain High" where they would do stuff like rock climbing and mountaineering and other outdoor activities. At the end of the term, they would go on a field trip where they put what they learned into practice. Probably were able to slink away off into the woods and take a few hits off a joint to boot. Heh heh, Rocky Mountain High, indeed.

On Vice News tonight there was a piece about a mother fighting her school district because a parent has to be at the bus stop to accompany her eight year old son home from school. If there is no parent he can't get off and has to go back to the school and wait to be picked up by a parent. The bus stop is two minutes away on the other side of a park. What is going on in this country?

Very fair. I was in fact very nice to the ward sister when I spoke to her, and she was great (and equally as frustrated as we are). The head of department was very apologetic about him being "forgotten" - although I do note the surgeon who actually did forget hasn't said a word.

He now looks like coming home and waiting for a surgery date in a few weeks, because some forms aren't through the system yet. He has to stay in until they're through because if he goes home they go somewhere different (I'm going to pretend that makes any sort of logical sense....) - but at least we finally have a rough answer.

Dealing with litigation (or previously doing so) I'm sure we both appreciate how arrogant surgeons can be. Their staff are usually very nice, at least.

Well reading the thread above puts my problems in perspective. Hope your father will be alright TRB.

My issue is that the semester is over and my overall trend of fucking around for the past three months seems to have tripled the number of Bs on my transcript (1 to 3). I'm just plain pissed at myself now.

Cheers all, much appreciated :p

He now looks like probably coming home today - whilst it's a frustrating about turn, it will be nice to have him home when I go down there for the weekend. He will hopefully come home with a date set though, which is something.

To chime in on this: I have many horror stories about doctors and lack of reading comprehension, the more specialized the doctor, the worse it tends to be.

All the best for your father, TRB.

Some good news - dad's home :p should really be in the happy thread but meh! No date yet but he is top of the priority list as soon as there's a slot big enough (half a day at least).

Hefty medication and instructions to behave himself!

The Leafs lost on Wednesday and now I don't know what to do with my evenings. They looked so good all season but blew it in the 3rd period.

:p that same night TFC lost the CONCACAF Champions League final. In a penalty shootout. Sigh.
